WISH: "IDs of Selection" for elements selected in a link

WISH: "IDs of Selection" for elements selected in a link

Sometimes I see an element (in a link - beam, wall, etc.) that's in the wrong place, needs discussion, etc., and I'd like to call the arch's attention to it. It's helpful to give the element ID so there's no confusion about what element I'm talking about, but that requires opening the link directly and searching for the element manually. It would be nice if I could just tab-select it in whatever view I see it in and get the element ID immediately.

I'm a little hesitant to add this, because I really think that this should be part of the built-in functionality, but I wanted to share a fairly decent workaround that I found so others can also benefit:

  1. Install Dynamo (if not already there - I'm using 1.0.0) and open it
  2. Packages > Search for a Package... and install Spring Nodes (I've got 82.9.1)
  3. create a new workspace and arrange notes as seen in the attached workspace export image (note that there's also a Select Linked Elements node for multiple elements (but requires you to finish the selection).
  4. Save it to something like LinkedElementID (& I set mine to run manually)
  5. To use, run, select the link, then select the nested element you want to ID
  6. TODO: At some point I’m also going to check out using Dyno to make a button

Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea. Unfortunately, this idea did not get the support of the community over the last 6 months and as such we will not be pursuing it at this time. Please feel free to rework (titles and clear descriptions are really important) and resubmit this one down the road.
