Wall Base Parameter

Wall Base Parameter

We would like to request a wall base (sweep) parameter within the wall family in Revit. A simple toggle to turn on/off a sweep or set of sweep options that could be used as base in a project. Having a wall family with this on/off parameter would be substantial in visualization, QC and overall accurate 3D models going forward.

Why no to add the sweep to the wall profile, and instead of a turn on/off option, you duplicate the wall (one with base and the other without it)?

@samuelsanf Because that creates a ridiculous number of walls in a project, especially when using smart tags and sections from the model. If you make a change after this step, you have to go change each and every wall type. You'd also have to have a wall type for each base used, another wall type if the base is only 1 sided, then another for that wall if there's a location without base. It becomes way too much to deal with on the average medium-large to large project.

Ok, now I understand your point. Maybe Crown molding (interior wall cornice?) is needed in the same way. (not sarcasm)

Having only one wall type do not make it more tangled to manage the instances of walls that have, or not have, base and the ones that have it on the other side? I mean it will be a manual option to do per instances in a lots of walls (one by one, checking that it's on the correct side). You will have to check or uncheck another wall in which you need another base option. Make clear the this Base is not the Wall Base instance property (bottom of wall).

Some users may continue to use separate wall types to enable or disable the base option. Or creating sweeps with locked alignment (but this is another room by room, element by element work).

What about dependant wall types? (related to other intances as stacked wall do) Smiley Tongue

Or if you can define Base on/off and crown molding per room as a room parameter?

I never posted one of these Ideas, but I think room schedules must be more model oriented, not only theorical values.

People have been asking for room parameters to talk to materials and sweeps for a number of releases and the Autodesk Dev. people I've spoken with have never given an indication it's even possible.

The reason we need a parameter includes how we visualize and how we model. For example: Once an architect (or production) has gone through and modeled all the walls through DD, made necessary changes etc. the interiors department or subcontractor will give information on base and materials for each room. If we can make all the walls have B1 project wide, then edit instances for storage closets, wet rooms, or exceptions, that would be a significantly easier and more accurate task than placing sweeps one by one or creating different wall instances per situation. The crown molding could actually be the exact same parameter in a wall as base, or even hand rails in hospital or skilled nursing settings. You create a sweet in a wall type (sweep A, B, C etc.) then have yes/no parameters for each sweep. you can turn them all off or multiple on (crown with handrail and base). Would create a very useful tool all around.

Thanks for the additional functionality comment!

Again, if we could get Autodesk to marry room schedules/ room parameters with actual materials and solids, we would be making huge progress on years of requests.

(P.S. please remember to vote if you like the idea going forward).

Cheers,
