Uncropped Perspective 3D View

Uncropped Perspective 3D View

There absolutely, positively needs to be the option for default 3D views to display in perspective. This is so fundamental that I would have expected to see these years ago. Having this feature should be one of the biggest priorities for the next release of Revit. It could be a check box or context menu setting on the view cube for the existing default view. I promise it would be game changer and expand the use of Revit for conceptual design as much as technical documentation. Humans see in perspective, so we should be able to work that way too in Revit. Please vote this up! Cheers!

This idea should be marked as accepted.  It was missed during our last roadmap update.   Take a look at our roadmap here: www.autodesk.com/revitroadmap

Hi Everyone,

We are pleased to announce that with the 2019 release of Revit, we have implemented many improvements to perspective views and added the ability to un-crop the view as well.  You can now switch between view modes (perspective and iso) on the fly and made many more improvements to using perspective views in Revit to make it easier.  Please check out Revit 2019 and tell us what you think of the improvements.  We are marking this idea as implemented.  If there are other needs, please add your vote to those ideas (if they exist) or submit new ones.  We want to hear from you.

Thanks,

The Factory

Legendary! 2019 is my favourite release to date. Finally my brain will not have to work so hard to process isometric views.

Thank you very much for recognising that this feature is so vital to most designers and prioritising its implementation. On behalf of all the people who see the world in three dimensions, I thank you!

cheers,

@Anonymous and others:

Adding perspective mode is a huge win! Now it's time to lobby and vote for other ideas that build on this, in order to make Revit a more design friendly application:

- change the orbit mode in perspective so (interior) navigation becomes easier: Revit Idea for 3d orbit

- improve the shaded effect in the viewport: Revit Idea (right now the realistic view is either way to dark, or the colors and textures get overexposed)

- measure in 3d: Revit Idea

Abosultely! This is a monumental release and no doubt lots had to change
under the hood to make it happen.

Personally I would like to see still more love poured into visual styles.
For example, I don't care much for the realistic view but I care a lot
about Hidden line and Consistent Colour views. I would like to see:

- better 3D navigation
- ability to control luminance of ambient shadows, they are always too dark
for my taste.
- ability to display decals in all non-realistic views. This would be huge
for embellishing views at very little modelling expense (eg: signs,
decorations etc)
- ability to add 2D visual components to locked 3D views. This would help a
lot with simple entourage/vegetation for scale and a bit of visual
interest. This could be generalised to ability to fully annotate locked 3D
views including filled regions, detail components etc. I dunno how this
would actually work in Revit. I do know that I export 3D views a lot and
then comp in 2D stuff outside of Revit.

These are just a few of the ideas I have. There are lots more. I try to log
them as they come but often they end up getting drowned in the constant
stream of other good ideas.

Hey Tomek,

Not sure whether you are in the beta forum, but if you're not you should definitely join!

Also, as far as "2D visual components" go: Am I right you're actually referring to something like a "face-me" component (like in Sketchup)? We'd love to see something like that!

I see you have an idea for it: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/add-ability-to-display-entourage-as-billboards/idi-p/7260... Already added my vote!

I am in the beta programme. Don't always have enough time to properly
engage with this though. I wish work places recognised that this is an
important part of both gaining knowledge of the system as well as having a
say in how the system evolves and actually allotted some time under R&D so
that people like me could spend say an hour a week on just testing the hell
out of new features and commenting on them.

Yes, billboards would be great. However, I think now that we got all these
new goodies the next thing that really needs to be tackled is the Project
Browser. It's a very rudimentary and not very functional piece of UI that
makes even simple tasks onerous. For example, when placing views on sheets
I would like to see views and sheets side-by-side so that I don't have to
scroll up and down a very long list. And how do I know if I had already
placed a given view on a sheet? I don't. It's frustrating at times but I
know that we'll get there sooner rather than later.

Oh also, the second idea is referenced (improve the shaded effect in the viewport: Revit Idea) actually aims to have a "consistent colors+textures mode. Basically creating a more sketchup/formit style look.

There is a browser organization filter to show only view not placed on sheets.

Not that i don't agree that the Project Browser could use some work, but at least as knowing what views are not on a sheet, you can get that right now with a filtered browser.

Another tip for that last one (as far as you're not already aware): you can right click any view, it "open sheet" is greyed out it's not placed.

Although I agree about the PB (I have an idea about having a Tabbed Project Browser), the development teams for what happens in the PB is a different one than the one that works on in canvas display. So we might be able to get both 😉

Also consider adding your feedback to the new public roadmap. We need more architects/designers involved in the conversation.

At last, may the angels of CAD in the sky be blessed, the universal 3D perspective view has finally been added into Revit after years and years of eternal wait. Thank the Lord.
