Truss Family Enhancements - More Web Member types.

Truss Family Enhancements - More Web Member types.

Issue: When a truss is engineered it is almost always designed with more than one web member size. The members in the center are usually smaller than at the ends. The vertical web members are almost always different in size to the diagonal web members.

Suggestion: There needs to be an ability to create different sizes along the truss so that an economical design can be modeled easily. Currently there is only 1 web member size. 1 top chord size and 1 bottom chord size.

Currently the sizes of the individual web members can be changed once the truss is in the project. Unfortunately this is an instance only ability and does not reflect how trusses are used in building construction.

It would also be great to allow top and bottom chord splices without breaking the truss.

Hi team, how is the review going?

Hi @haedicu,

Just checking how the review is going. Its been over a year since the status was changed.

Originally the "Truss Family Enhancements" Idea that was broken up into the 7 Ideas that are now being voted on had over 150 Kudos. That discussion has now been viewed over 1000 times by your users. Truss Family Enhancements thread.

The 7 ideas combined have close to 400 kudos which would put the original idea on the front page of the top kudo getting ideas.

Considering this is a discipline specific idea representing a small fraction of the revit users, that's a hell of a lot of the structural users telling Autodesk that the trusses need to be fixed.

Considering Truss enhancements isn't on the road map, I'm beginning to fear that the idea has been forgotten.

Could you please give us structural users some encouragement that this idea, which is something that we desperately need is being considered.

Regards

Sean

No ah ah!!!! Now I am pissed! Flip controls is one thing, TRUSSES! that's another!

Read the comments on this one. this item had a couple of hundred votes and was one of the first ideas added onto the forumn on DAY 1. I had to break it up so that the developers could work on it later! It was previously on the ideas station under the enterprise priority program but had to be moved to here for the forumns launch!

If you add up all the votes all the different Truss sections to make one item it tallys almost 600 votes!

The truss family needs massive overhaul! I work on Billion dollar automotive plants and need to use them. They are a joke!

Hi all,

I'm a bit late to this post, but honestly why is this not a thing I've had and Engineer give me designs to draw up like crazy and Revit is sorely lacking in Multiple  Web Vertical or Diagonal option.

Or could someone Please just show me how to create my own vertical/diagonal group so that I can have some semblance of not losing my sanity on time I have spend to manually drawing a truss group

I am sorry, there's not much you can do on a whole project level.
We typically use the biggest web member for all the model elements for others to clash with. And then create a 2d truss diagram that contains everything the way it should be. It's a work around for sure and not as efficient as it should be, not to mention not compliant to LOD300 standards, but its become an industry accepted work around because of Autodesks in ability to do anything with the truss module.
When, probably never. Trusses are by far one of the highest vote getters for structural needs on this forum .... And have been since the day the forum opened. It was my request to be fixed when this forum was an enterprise priority request area. Still here. Still nothing.

Oh, how many votes would the original idea have had if it not been broken up? it was close to 400 at the time! they deleted that idea and made it start from scratch back in 2016, combined now, 576 votes, @kimberly_fuhrman-jones still nothing.

So much for enterprise priority!

Hi,

trusses have a high priority for us.
As you noticed we have added a lot of steel capabilities into Revit over the last years.

We have now over 125 steel connections, bolts, drill holes, copes and other modifiers.
Trusses are on our list to take care about.

Best regards,

Gernot
