Support AutoCAD XCLIP

Support AutoCAD XCLIP

AutoCAD has a function for XREFs that crops out the unwanted part of the drawings. Revit does not support this, so the whole drawing comes in.

Using Xclip in AutoCAD allows us to place badly drawn drawing at the 0,0 origin point and to crop out unwanted part of the drawing.

Ideally, using a XCLIP in a CAD drawing would not only crop the drawing in Revit, but allow Revit to ignore all the layers that are used outside of the clip region.

This would bring these advantages:

-Allows to place the drawings closer to 0,0 without modifying the original drawing

-Remove unwanted layers

-Clean up consultant drawings without changing them

The result is a smoother Revit experience with less CAD mess laying around.

I just wanted to note that the alternative methods do not achieve the desired goals.

So, you're saying you want something in Revit to correct sloppy/bad habits from AutoCAD.

Seriously, though. The more I use Revit, the more I hate AutoCAD, precisely because of crap like that.

I can't remember the last "clean" DWG I I've seen.

Indeed, it's insulting to ask the architects how to draw properly, especially if it does not fit their workflow.

That and you would think people would know to draw next to the 0,0 point. There's a reason some of these people have not switched to Revit yet... Emoticono sacando la lengua Emoticono riéndose a carcajadas
