Sub-Rooms Within Rooms

Sub-Rooms Within Rooms

Something that would be great to be able to do within Revit that is very applicable to Multifamily and Hospitality projects would be some sort of sub-rooms that you can create within a host room. For example, for a hotel guestroom we would make each entire guestroom a room, but it isn't possible to distinguish the restroom, closets, etc. within those. I think this could add a lot of value when it comes to scheduling especially for finishes that we could then indicate on the finish schedule per each individual space in these situations.

Voted.

Just to clarify, you basically want something similar to "HVAC zones" for "spaces", but for rooms?

Yes, that's kind of the idea, just a way to sub-divide rooms into different spaces.

It would be nice if they Add a host room that could be categorized as a suite with a checkbox or something and then have rooms assigned within that suite.

Another option would be if you select multiple rooms adjacent to each other you could group them into a Suite and then have a suite tag or have that be a parameter that can be used in a label.

You can use Area ->Area Plan button to create name areas across multiple rooms. You can create an Area encompassing the guestroom, restroom, closet, lounge, balcony, etc. You can also create an inventory schedule with all Areas sqm, colors, finishes, etc

@kyleYT9WL did you try using Areas?

@samuelsanf @victor_vijeuKD42L It would be more intuitive and user friendly though to have a way to do it within the context of "room tools". Rooms and areas can't really be scheduled together and you can't draw them in the same view, etc. They are separate tools for different purposes. I think we need a space and space separator tool for architectural rooms in a way that the spaces are "room aware" and can be associated with the room they are placed in and can get scheduled with rooms in some way.

Hi @kyleYT9WL, you always can use de "Department" parameter of rooms, or any other, then group and sumarize by this parameter on schedules. On views you can place a tag on each room and apply a color legend by department.
