Strikethrough text formatting

Strikethrough text formatting

It would be nice to have "Strikethrough" formatting for text (a button next to Bold, Italics, & Underline). Depending on the client, there are times when we make deletions to General Notes (in addenda) by striking out the text instead of just deleting it.

While I don't think that we'd actually use this feature right now (our General Notes is done in AutoCAD and linked in), I'm sure there will be a point in Revit's future when the Text is good enough to use for GNs, such as by implementing this:

Revit is a great program, but let's not lose sight of the true purpose of the program, and that is to communicate. The creation of a connected model is not an end in itself. A key part of communicating building instructions is text/language - written instruction. Just take for example the top of this response box. Right there I have the tool to strikethough. I can't understand why such a basic formatting choice would be omitted from Revit. I understand Revit allows me to bold, italicize and underline. For your reference, I have clipped an image of the text formatting bar from Autocad.text formatting.jpg

Yes, strikethrough text formatting is a real need, especially since clouds are not linked to text, but just space where the text occurs, and clearly should what has been revised in text is now problematic. Use of regular text, and bold for added text and strikethrough for deleted text is an industry standard for some time. This should be a feature now, along with clouds that are sticky to text, but I understand that sticky clouds are a huge ask.

Workaround until Autodesk solves this in 2099:

Slap another text box on top (with transparent background) and type out underscores as needed.

Agreed, Revit is not good at allowing any sort of revisions when it comes to scheduling. I don't think sticky cloud should be such a big ask, nor should having strikethrough text. At the high premiums companies are paying it is ridiculous that CA is so often overlooked in the process.

Revit could easily allow that revisions be able to be added to schedules so that you could have a yes/no feature that could put a cloud around all the text in that column. Or even just put a dot next to any row that has been changed in a revision.

Workaround for tags and such: Load a font that has strikethrough within.

@tdaviesCH6X9 Thank you!!! (& @emmi.viitala - just saw your post now)

I'm not sure if this was your intent, but I found this site by searching for "arial strikethrough" (use the "Long strikethrough" option) : Unicode Strikethrough - S̵t̵r̵i̵k̵e̵t̵h̵r̵o̵u̵g̵h̵ ̵T̵e̵x̵t̵ (yaytext.com)

I think it creates the "strikethrough text" using unicode character overlays, so it can be used WITHIN a larger section of text (i.e. you don't have to change the font for the whole element). The output is a little sloppy with multiple lines (line-wrapping gets messed up - especially if there's hyphens, and there are leading strikeout/spaces sometimes), but definitely worth checking out the next time I need it!

One other issue that I see (that might be a non-issue most of the time): there's no way to "take out" the strikethrough (correct me if I'm wrong) - you'd have to re-type the text (or copy from a previous version). That said, we shouldn't need that functionality most of the time.

BTW, we ARE using Revit for our General Notes now (using manual line-breaks for the roman-numeral workaround), so this is more relevant for us now. I can't believe how many years it's been...

Using a strikethrough font in labes etc. looks like best option for me, only if there was some basic font available as strikethrough version. Have anyone found helvetica, swiss etc font version with strikethrough?

interesting that the comments allow strikethrough text, but not Revit itself.......
