section far clip offset default settings!

section far clip offset default settings!

Hi All,

I have searched the ideas on this page and have found this idea suggested numerous times with no response from Autodesk. I decided to re-post the idea to hopefully get a response....

For me this is the most annoying thing in Revit! I am a structural Draftsperson and i would normally cut 100's of sections a project, 99% of these sections would have a final far clip offset off 100mm max. When i create the section i get all sort of far clip offsets, some are 100+ Meters!? Very Very annoying, either zooming out to drag the clip in or going to the properties and changing there, also the large clip area slows down the process as Revit needs to account for all the elements in the clip. The addition of a default option for all sections would be very handy and/or the option to set the clip before you finish placing the section.

Please vote for this idea if you agree and hopefully it will be taken on board by Autodesk.

When creating a Section View, the Far Clip Offset seems to be hard coded to 120inch (3048mm). Why not set the default value to the last modified Far Clip Offset?

There needs to be a way to set the default Far Clip Offset depth when creating a section.  Nearly all of the sections I create only require me to see about 1-2', but the sections created often include the depth of the entire building. This makes creating a section more time consuming, because it has to process much more than needed, then I have to manually change the offset depth. Being able to set the depth prior to creating the section, will save time.

Same for the height of the section !

The option bar should let us define Top level+offset, Bottom level+offset and Far Clip offset (or grid/refplane) at creation stage and retain last used values !

Lots of my drafters do complain about this because they loose a lot of time modifying the cropped region all the time when they make the structural detailed sections.

BTW we would also like to be able to only show in planview (already placed on sheet) only the sections placed on the same sheet. Helas a filter applied on a planview won't be able to "match" its sheet number value with the one of a section view and hide all sections that doesn't match !.... even while this info is actually available... 😞

Maybe that should be post as another idea... 🙂

More to the point, EVERY (yes, EVERY) default tool setting in Revit should be accessible and customizable to the individual user.

Here Here !  This truly is one of the most annoying features (among many).

My other greatest entry on the wish list is ability to show grids and grid designations on 3d views.

Will definately post that one if its not already shown.

Yes to the idea... Revit tries to guess how far you want the far clip. It is wrong most of the time. Allow for default setting.

@Anonymous Revit 2019 shows grids in 3d

Correction.

2019 shows LEVELS in 3D, not grids

Hopefully, grids will follow soon.

Hopefullly.......... Holding breath.

ever tired cutting a section in another section?

The resulting section is the length of the building!!! Would be nice to have this default to the clipping extent of the section the cut was made in also. It really sucks when you're working on a building that is 1000ft/ 300m long. finding the subject of the cut is pretty difficult when this is the case.

I'm not even a draftsman and i find this irritating!

I generally produce sections working for a main contractor to add clarity to highly serviced areas or to provide for information drawings as a BIM coordinator, but this must be one of the most frustrating things for me. If i was a Structural Engineer i'd be pulling my hair out! Come on Autodesk it can't be that difficult of a feature to add.

在项目文件比较大的时候,新建一个剖面视图等待时间较长,或许是因为默认的剖面视图远剪裁偏移值太大造成,急需新增自定义预设远裁剪偏移;

When the project file is relatively large, it takes a long time to create a new section view, perhaps because the default section view far clipping offset is too large, so it is urgent to add a custom preset far clipping offset;

the ability to assign a Global Parameter would to the default Far Clip Offset be great too.

The ability to set a default far clip offset for sections. Currently when creating a section the offset seem further the longer the section line and closer the shorter the section line. There seems to be know way of setting a default offset distance, however you can specify this in the properties once the section line is drawn.

It would be good to be able to set a default value on Far Clip Offset for new sections.

A lot of time is wasting on changing Far Clip Offset, its very annoying that it often extends far off the screen.
