Search Bar When Creating View Reference

Currently, when creating a new elevation, callout, etc. that references an existing view, there is a search bar that lets you type the view name or number to narrow down all the views in the project to the one you are looking to reference.  

Having the same search function when creating a View Reference would be excellent. I know that all the project's views are broken out into separate drop downs for Elevations, Sections, Details when creating a View Reference, but that still leaves you to scroll through possibly hundreds of views to find the one you want to reference. It would be much faster to simply type the name or number instead of scrolling and scrolling and scrolling...

In Revit 2015 R2 we got a new 'search' bar at the top of some menus. In particular, 'Reference other view' when using callouts, sections etc. 

Can we please get this functionality for the 'View Reference' tool as well.

When using both the View Reference tool and the Reference Other View option on Callouts/Sections/Elevations, etc. there are some differences between the two tools. The "Reference Other View" option when creating some views allows for a search as well as shows the sheet/detail numbers within the view/search results. This is by far the better setup when looking for a view to reference.

The "View Reference" tool does not allow you to search the views in the list and it also doesn't list the sheet/detail numbers if those views are already on a sheet.

Having these match would keep things consistent and make it more efficient to find what view you are looking for.

• Remove view type filter. 

• Instead, allow user to search in the drop down by typing in view name or detail/sheet number. (Similar to user interface for creating reference callouts/sections).

• Remove constraints on allowable view types. All view types that have a viewport on sheets should be viable reference targets including area plans (and maybe legends?). 

The view reference option is so much clunkier than reference sections and callouts despite fulfilling very similar objectives. The view reference tool would be significantly improved simply by conforming to match the way that the reference sections/callouts are created.

Yep, Revit is full of little inconsistencies like this one. I've been lobbying for a slowdown with new features in favour of reaping some of the low hanging fruit. There are plenty of tiny features that are a bit of a nuisance and that, in my mind, could be fixed with easy without major disruption to the underlying system architecture.

Anyway, this is a really good example and I can't believe I missed it before. You've got my vote now.

I'm pretty sure you can't reference a Callout either which is something I have wanted to do in the past.

Not sure why you can't reference pretty much any type of view in the project

When adding a "view reference", there is no ability to search by view name or view number on sheet. It seems it would be easy for you to add this feature, since you do give use this option when cutting section views and referencing existing views. It would be very useful.

It's insane to me that this hasn't been fixed yet. It's essentially the exact same funcationality as adding a section mark referencing an existing section/callout, you'd thing even software development-wise it'd be almost as simple as using the same ui-form function.

Please add the ability to reference 3D views as well, we are currently using workarounds with blank drafting views overlaid on top of 3D views on sheets so you get the visuals of the 3D view and the reference to the drafting view in the same place.
