We would benefit greatly from being able to create room types, in the same way, that we can create types for pretty much everything else. This would allow us to predefine information that our collegues have to remember to set out - finishes, loads and so on. We could get support for ISO - IFC standards room types (parking, exterior, interior) where only gross area space is supported through areas. And if Zones where a possibility for architecture, as "Idea'd" by others, we could predefine relationships to that too, and get a clearer understanding of the relations in the project.
To implement it correctly, rooms, areas and zones should have a spot in the project browser - you could even lumb them together with HVAC spaces and HVAC zones.
When there is a need for HVAC space and zone types, there is no need to think that it is not there for architecture too. In many ways room would be better supported if they where renamed to spaces, and the functionality from the MEP side was implementet for architecture (well parts of it.. ;)).
Believe it or not, everything we build revolves around the room. All elements either create or support the function of room, from the wall to the duct. Make the room a top priority.

IFC implementation of the concept (and is one that descripes our need quite good too):
