Room annotation tag - width of label

Room annotation tag - width of label

Sometimes, rooms have long names, sometimes not. In both cases, room annotation tag is the same, but in 1 case the annotation can overflow on walls, doors etc. whereas in the second, annotation is perfect.

IDEA : Please make the Revit user to be able to control the room annotation tag width directly in the project without having to create a specific room annotation tag family with a different label width.

You can do this. Just make multiple types for your room tag (or any tag) with varying widths, and save it. Wanna get real snazzy? Write a Dynamo script that automatically changes the tag types based on how long the label in the tag is.

Hi @mhiserZFHXS ,

I know what I want is not available in the software, that's why I write this Idea 😉

Your warkaround is what I want to avoid. My annotation tag has already several labels with multiple types (varying with size of fonts, information to display, linked with visibility parameter of labels, there are functions, etc.). It's "snazzier" to have only 1 family with different types, but it's quite complicated to modify for my Revit users that do not master Revit families.

What I want is something "easier to use" for final users, without creating parametrers/types or duplicating the families. I don't want something more complicated with Dynamo.

My Idea would be to be able to have the possibility to modify the width in the project as we can do in the family.

I understand its not the way that YOU want to do it, but again, it can be done.

Honestly, I would shift around how you organize your annotation families. Rather than having all of your text sizes crammed into one family, I would have a family for 1/8", 3/32" text, 1/16" text, etc (or whatever your preferred text sizes are). You said yourself you don't want to shove every possible thing into a single family, but it kinda sounds like you are doing that already.

I want to avoid creating many families. Now I have 1 family for each category, and it works really well. The issue only resides in the width of the label.

Even in your solution, we would have an issue : the 1/8" family would not work, you would need to have 2 families (1/8" thin, 1/8" large) or 2 types inside your family.

We always manage to solve this problem, we duplicate the family and change labels width. The fact is that I think it could be "better" for the user experience.

Yes, this would be what I want. But maybe OTHER users would like this. It is the aim of Revit Ideas. Isn't it ?

@RECArchi I agree this would be a great enhancement that is long overdue but isn't there like a hundred other ideas posted that ask for this exact thing. I feel you are watering-down these by creating yet another separate request for all to vote on. Check out following examples:

@Joey_JM Thank you for the reply !

I didn't know there were others Ideas... thank you for the list, I'll vote for them.

Sincerely.
