It would be great if Revit's UI and graphics was upgraded to a more modern, inspiring, and maybe tech savvy look. It still kind of looks like an early 2000's software.
I really like modern interfaces based on WPF, especially in Microsoft Blend. I really hope Revit will also get absolutely New modern UI in near future. Here are some of my ideas on this matter. The main idea is to use colours for property state indexes and transitions between property tables within a single window.
- better input fields (especially text fields), it would be helpful if the text field would 'grow' on selection (just like some text fields in the material editor)
I can't say I'm a huge fan of squeezing the V/G override dialog into the properties palette. Some dialogs would be better served by moving it there, but some just require more space or a very specific layout.
Why break work flow for people that need to use this everyday!?
Why on earth does it now open a window to select options in the middle of the screen, when before there was a simple and effective drop down list?
Bring back the old way of selecting! I want less clicks and less mouse movements, not more! So far, haven't seen any improvement in Revit2026, only stuff that breaks work flow!
@sta69D29, I understand what you're saying regarding change being hard, but you better hold on. The Options Bar is going away and items that used to be in the Options bar are moving to either the Ribbon or the Properties dialog or both depending on the tool. That's causing some definite learning curve issues. The Manage Links dialog has had a major change starting in 2025 in case you haven't seen that yet. Nothing we can do about these updates other than try to guide them in the new designs in some way. Revit Preview Project
I don't know what you mean by "...now open a window to select options in the middle of the screen, when before there was a simple and effective drop down list?" The Options window has looked like it does for quite a while now. Which change are you referring to specifically? Which version are you jumping up to Revit 2026 from?
Personally, I don't have any issues with the UI look as the OP has suggested, as long as the functionality is there and improving. But it's happening because change happens.
Yes, I noticed the Manage Links, freaked me out at first, but it's okay. Haven't worked with 26 much yet, as we're only now getting models from the architects in that version. Will likely get more complains along the way.
"Funny" but I can't replicate the drop down text opening in a window in the middle of the screen today. Yet, it was annoying me all day yesterday.
And not that big a leap, I'm mostly on 24 and 25, with a few projects still on 23.
If they really want to improve the UI, they should focus on stuff that could save us some time, like grouping the Line weight, Line Style and Line patterns, either by putting them in a single window with tabs, or adding intern buttons to jump into each window. It's a pain in the #¤%" to want to create a new line, and then have to close before you need a new style also. It should be able to open directly from the line selection...
Same with profiles, it's a chore to add or edit new profiles, or create new rebar cover, etc. If you have to close what you're doing to find a button in another tab in the ribbon or down the family browser to find something, because you can't edit it directly... it's breaks flow and costs a lot of time just trying to locate something.
These are stuff that would really help, not "fluffy" design that adds nothing and sometimes makes it even worse than what it was (like the selection of Views/Sheets when printing or pdf) - before the option to select views and sheets, was right there, one click and it was done, and it remembered the last selection....now you have to bring a drop down menu to show 3/4 options, then deselect the ones you don't want... every single time, because it can't even remember the last selection as preferred)...
