Revit for Mac

Revit for Mac

*Note: This request has been addressed by our Product Teams in this Revit Public Roadmap FAQ.

Please start producing REVIT for Mac. It is a must have application for architecture students and the mac industry occupies a huge part of the computer industry. We really need the software.

A large percentage? Mac users are only 10% of the market share for PCs. Only a fraction of that 10% work in construction related fields.

Its wild how many one-time posters come here asking for something that's never going to happen.

Of course windows PC's will have a huge market share when companies like AutoDesk basically force you into buying a Windows PC. The amount of people who have had to switch to Windows or just return their Macbook because they've realised it's incompatible happens everyday. Me being a student still and interning I see this happen first hand. Not to mention big companies that buy 100 new machines every so often if they have an upgrade cycle.

And it's wild how one time posters like yourself come here just to type out some complete rubbish that adds no value to this thread. Is there a reason you'd be against them expanding to a wider audience, or just giving the people what they want?

Oh and not to mention how gaming inflates the market share even more. If you exclude PC's exclusively used for gaming and other recreational use, as it is irrelevant when looking at professional industry use, then you'd see how close the market share really is.

Yes, I have a simple answer for why I don't want them to waste time on this. There is already a long list of new features and fixes that Revit needs for those of us that have the proper hardware. I'd rather they not waste time rebuilding the program from scratch for a very small but very loud group of people.

Oh, and a company that goes and buys 100 new Macs only to realize they are inadequate for their needs should fire whoever decided to make that purchase without looking into that in the first place.

Thanks for your reply. 29.6% of US Market
and 15% of global market and 90% of people who have tried both.

Tanks doh.

Please tell me where I said "company that goes and buys 100 new Macs only to realize they are inadequate for their needs". The point about the company was about how it boosts the number of "users" which inflates market share. I say "users" because the people working now have personal AND work accounts so it doesn't accurately tell the story of how many Windows users there actually are if people are doubling up.

It’s also worth noting that those percentages are terribly misleading— the PC count includes all the point of sale terminals, advertising screens, airport ticketing systems, servers, etc that aren’t really used as computers everywhere. Regardless, it is an indisputable fact that Macs are important to a large number of architects, and therefore should be a priority for AEC software development. With WFH, having capable portable machines is increasingly important, and this is by far and away best served in terms of performance and battery efficiency by Macs. Not having Mac compatibility is only becoming more egregious as time goes by.

Everyone, please keep conversation civil and constructive. Please see our Product Team's response on the Revit Public Roadmap for this request.

Thank you.

In my architecture studio we all work with Macs. Currently the team works mostly with Vectorworks, which is by far not comparable with Revit, but is the team's preferred software because it's native on the Mac. Revit is only used where unavoidable (with Parallels). It's a shame that so many customers (Most architects I know prefer the Mac) don't use the best software just because it's frontend has not been developed for the Mac. In particular these days, where AI can do most of the work necessary to transpose a Windows application to a Mac application, I guess the argument that there is no business case or that the development of the windows product would suffer too much, is no longer appropriate. A company like AutoDesk should be capable of developing a version of one of its core products that suits the needs of about half of their target users technology.

I understand Autodesk’s stance on not investing in developing Revit for macOS, but honestly, this justification no longer makes much sense in 2025. The main competitors of Autodesk in the architecture market, such as Archicad and Vectorworks, have been offering native support for Mac for years.

With modern tools for migrating code from Windows to macOS and advancements in artificial intelligence that facilitate this process, there is no real technical barrier preventing this adaptation. The architecture market has a significant number of professionals who use Mac for everything – and I am one of them.

Currently, I work with Revit daily on my Mac using Parallels. My computer has more than enough power for this, but it is still absurd that I need to run a virtual machine just to use essential software for my profession. Moreover, I know architects who have even bought Windows computers solely to run Revit but continue to use Mac for their entire workflow. This makes any calculation of the “Windows user base” completely inaccurate, as many people fall into this situation—either using virtual machines or purchasing a PC just for this necessity.

Autodesk seems to be ignoring this niche, which is not small. If other companies can offer native Mac support without compromising performance, why does Autodesk insist on neglecting this demand?

I've been following this thread for many years now.

Students want MacOS access to Revit — we'll eventually work with it and we want to start playing with the software.

Crossing fingers.

Thanks

I believe with AI, this addition to the suite should/will be forthcoming
rather quickly.

Exciting times.

@rrichardE92JX

If we focus on higher-end PCs, such as those that are AI capable, according to Canalys, Apple has a much larger percentage. From Canalys:

"For the full year 2024, 17% of PCs shipped were AI-capable, with the biggest winners being Apple at 54% share, followed by Lenovo and HP at 12% share each."
