Revit API to open BIM 360

Revit API to open BIM 360

As BIM360 becomes more and more common the need for API support becomes more and more necessary. Please implement Revit API functions to work with BIM360/cloud models. It would be ideal if support for BIM360 cloud files was as seamless as working with local Revit files.

Here is the ongoing API thread discussing this issue:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-api-forum/browsing-model-files-in-the-cloud-a360-c4r/td-p/65371...

Specifically support is required for:

UIApplication.OpenAndActivateDocument (Still returning FileNotFoundException.)
ApplicationServices.Application.CopyModel (Even if only to a local drive.)

@matthew_taylor, while it is changed to accepted, it may take a while to implement.  Unfortunately I don't have a timetable for when we will have it, but it is on the list.

Thanks for submitting your idea. Marking as implemented as the capability to open a cloud model via the Revit API was added in Revit 2019.1.

Back in April 25, 2018, Jeremy Tammik confirmed that the Revit 2019 API supports cloud paths (both for existing methods and new methods).

https://thebuildingcoder.typepad.com/blog/2018/04/whats-new-in-the-revit-2019-api.html#4.1.5

You'll have to identify the project GUID and model GUID.

We are pleased to say that this has been implemented in Revit 2022!
