Revit 2023 Disconnect at point for demolish

Revit 2023 Disconnect at point for demolish

In sprinkler design, one of the new features in R23 really doesn't work well for me. This the new demolish feature that leaves everything connected.

The demolish process now takes longer than it once did. I can see the value in leaving a run or section of piping/duct connected so I am not suggesting to roll back Demolish to the way it worked in R22 and previous.

Instead, if multiple objects are selected and set to demolish in the properties pane, force a disconnect only at the extremes or "ends" of the selected items being demolished.

Or... as an option, a separate tool that force a disconnect between two points. An example would be to have the tool snap and closed connectors and, when you click on one, it breaks the connection. ...just anything really would be better than what we have to do now. I have to delete an item and that works but it isn't very nice visually. Before, having it disconnect automatically mean I could just easily run new pipe off the existing-to-remain. Now, I have the extra step of having to figure the best way to force that disconnect.

This needs to be fixed asap!

I don't believe that the chain of demolished elements should be disconnected, that shouldn't change. BUT, the ability to easily define where things should be disconnected needs to be something we can do. As of now, with this change in Revit 2023, it's a nightmare to try and demo a part of a pipe (or duct, etc.) and then attempt to connect a new element on the end of the existing pipe.

Please fix this faster that the original demo issue was addressed!

Demoed portions of a system either need to be a sub-system or separate system. I'm not sure which. Either way, the demoed objects need to leave an open connection for new systems to connect to the existing-to-remain portions.

Or give us a toggle so we can go back to the old demo behavior that wasn't great, but worked.

This is really a step backward as it is implemented.

I wonder if there isn't an underlying issue with the way Revit handles phases, since "demo" happens in "new construction" instead of in "existing" or, ideally, in between. I wonder if the program logic for systems can't distinguish between demoed and new because they both exist in the same phase. Similar to the weird phasing logic of rooms, where demo plans show the new rooms, not the existing rooms.

With 2023.1 'Split with Gap' can now be used on pipes and ducts. Creates that physical separation. This can ease the pain on straight segments.

I would also like to draw a "crossing" new duct at the same elevation of demo'd duct without a new tee being created through the duct I demo'd. It is a demo'd object, it should not be interacting with new objects.
