"Orient to a View" from a View

"Orient to a View" from a View

I know we can right-click over the ViewCube and "Orient to a View". But I have hundreds of Views and I need to remeber each name to do that. Wouldn't be nice to right-click directly in a View (View, Section, Callout) , and have an option "Orient to this View"?

But if you evoke this command in the destination view then how will Revit know which view to orient to this view? You'll then have to pick from an equally long list of views.

I think that this could be accomplished perhaps in the project browser where the workflow could be something like this:

- select the view you want to orient

- right click and select "orient to view". This will prompt you to select the target view.

Or it could be done the other way around where you select the target view first and then right-click and select "orient to selected view" on the view you want to re-orient.

Either way you still have to have some way of selecting the source and target views. There is no way around that.

How could this be so difficult?

Gotchya. I misunderstood what you wanted. As they say, a picture really is worth a whole bunch of words 😉

Yes, that would be useful.

I would just extend the way the Selection Box tool work now and make it available for view too :

When you select a section line, a callout or when you select "nothing" (which means you select the actual view. As shown in the properties) clicking on the Selection Box tool would open a new {3D} view showing the 3D cropped by the section box in the same way.

Adding a right click menu option is good too, but letting people use actual ribbon buttons is much better for learning and for touch enabled platforms (think of the future use of Revit 😉 )

Isn't there any plugin that could do that after 5 years? Other way around to make it a little quicker than clicking on ViewCube is to use simply the shortcut and then also the option dialog that's popping out is a little easier to manage but still.
