Push linked CAD to multiple views

When you link in a CAD file, you have the option to link this view only or all views. this is great when your just getting them into the project, but it would be nice to have a tool that gives us more control once the file has been introduced to the project.

Some sort of a dialogue box that lists the linked CAD, then you select it, then you are given a list of views you can have it visible in by selecting a check box next to its name and then hit apply.

Maybe something similar to this?

Great idea! For this reason, I always uncheck "current view only" and then put the CAD links on a workset so that I can globally control their visibility. This is a much better solution.

Current View Only and All Views do two completely different things.

  • Current View Only creates 2d Symbolic elements. Essentially drafting elements. If exploded - the lined become drafting lines.
  • All views places model lines in 3d Space. If exploded, the lines become model lines.

If you're using the import as a 2d symbol, it can quickly be copy/pasted to any number of views. using the Paste > Align to Selected Views (Not unlike you proposed dialog.) Visibility for a symbolic import only shows up in that one view's visibility options.

Imports in 3d space are visible in ALL views except drafting views. Plan, Section, Elevation. Visibility control is across all views.

And as noted: worksets combined with a global hide/show is a pretty common method for globally controling imports.
