Print Sheets directly from Master Revit project

Print Sheets directly from Master Revit project

It would be so great to be able to expand the Revit Linked files, and see the sheets that are enabled in the Linked files, and then be able to print them directly from the Master project file, instead of opening each linked file individually to print, or needing to create the sheets in the master project utilizing only the model data from the linked files.

I know this seems odd, but I use the linked files in two types of ways

The first method, is the typical, master project file, bring in various other linked files for usage of the models but ability to move them as large groups, etc.

The other is that I use linked files as options during Schematic Design.  With this scenario, any one of the linked files may ultimately be selected by the client as the option to proceed with, so they are in fact, all separate complete files, and I use a master Title-sheet to filter down to what I want to compile as a master options project.

This works great now.. but requires a lot of extra opening/printing/closing steps in order to print the sheets that are the options sheets in each file.. and it seems it should be fairly straightforward to be able to do it from the master.

Am I missing something already in place?

Food for thought

I see how this could be a convenience for handing design options within a single firm as you describe. But if I were a structural engineer whose model was linked into the architect's, using BIM 360 for instance, I would not want the architecture firm to be able to plot the structural sheets with my seal and signature. And vice versa. So I vote No.

Understood, but if the file is linked in, one assumes one could access the linked file directly and do it anyway.

I think a better option would be, in this scenario, is the sharing organization can lock their files, by way of global permissions associated to the relationship via BIM360, and prevent the ability.

All I’m saying is, between permissions control, and programming, those that do not want to allow can prevent, and those that want to, can allow..
