Print Sheet Sets

Print Sheet Sets

I regularly create multi-volume sets of drawings in a single model.  I have a parameter that assigns a volume number to each sheet.  It would be nice if the Publish Settings dialog had a way to recognize parameters and automatically create and manage the sheets contained in parameter driven sheet sets.  In my case, I could create a sheet set based upon my parameter "VOLUME" and specify a desired value and name for the sheet set.  I would create a sheet set named "VOLUME 1" based upon the parameter "VOLUME" where "VOLUME" has a value of "1".  Then when I wish to print Volume 1, I simply select "VOLUME 1" from the lists of available sheet sets.  All the sheets in the entire model would appear in the list, but only those sheets whose "VOLUME" parameter is currently set to 1 would be checked and ALL the sheet names and check boxes would be disabled and grayed because it is a parameter driven sheet set.  If at any time a sheet's "VOLUME" parameter changes, it will be automatically added or removed from the sheet set.

There have been several ideas related to this. Being able to print by a sorted, filtered sheet schedule would really make the program more useful.

Look for Xrev Transmit....Loved using this when I had to print out 10-11 volumes @100+ sheets per.

Let me expand on my previous example.

If you have a parameter named "discipline", then you could create a parameter driven sheet set based upon "discipline".  Name the sheet set "Electrical" and set the parameter value to "electrical" and you're done.

If Autodesk allowed multiple parameters, then you could create a sheet set based upon "discipline" and "Appears in Sheet List".  Naming the sheet list "Structural" and setting the "discipline" parameter to "Structural" and the "Appears in Sheet List" to TRUE, then only the sheets whose discipline is "Structural" and that appear in the sheet list would be printed.

The possibilities are endless.  I see this as so powerful, simple, and useful that I am surprised by how little support there is for the idea.

Status changed to: Implemented

We are pleased to say that this has been implemented in Revit 2025! Thank you for your contribution to improving Revit!
