Print - Default should be "Combine Sheets into single file" or allow cancelation

Default Print.jpg

In the print dialog, the default is to create individual files. This is rarely a good idea, especially if you have  set of 150+ pages.

Furthermore, there is no way to cancel the whole operation if you accidentally let it print your 150 pages individually. You have to sit there and say cancel 150+ time or forcefully close and restart Revit, assuming you had remembered to save before.

I would suggest you use "Combine Separate Views/Sheets into a single file" as the default.

Also, give us an option to cancel the whole printing operation when we make the error to print the pages individually. This is a large source of frustration in the office and it could be solved easily.

@chris.jones9VA3R  I can keep them as separate Ideas for now and will monitor both for activity.

Thanks again!

Bumping this.

I appreciate that there's now a warning popup now which says are you sure you want to create separate files because it has saved me from accidentally creating  40 pdf's.  However, a warning popup being necessary for a default setting on a routine task seems to be an indication that the wrong default is being used.

Having it stay with last used or combined seems to be a better solution; as well as not changing when other properties of the print job are altered - that is confusing / annoying.

Indeed, they thought they had fixed the problem but they didn't troubleshot it. Classic, I am upvoting your idea

Any traction on really implementing this in Revit by default ? @Anonymous @Anonymous @kimberly_fuhrman-jones ?
This behavior by default needs to change across the board, not just in one condition, please refer yourself to this all thread for details.

It hasn't been implemented properly @Tarek_K it is still not default behavior in Revit 2022 or 2023

No answer from anybody regarding a setting that has been needed by the community for ages now ?
We have to change this thing everytime we need to print, it's ridiculous.

Hi, @tlagardeAJBTA !

I feel your pain on this one! I'm going to file this one as a problem report. Thank you all for bringing it back to life.

Sure, do you mean that this will be fixed in the next releases ? This would be great, thank you

@tlagardeAJBTA- It would be pretty great. At this point it's just a part of my routine every time I print to check this setting. Would be nice to not have to do that anymore.

We shouldn't get used to bad setups.

Was it really ? On which version ? This is Revit 2024, still the default is set on "print as separate files"

What happened ?

It looks like this was already implemented in this exact duplicate Revit Idea.

Print - Default should be "Combine Sheets into single file" or allow cancelation - Autodesk Communit...

It is shocking that this is still an issue in Revit 2024

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones it obviously has not been implemented, Revit 2024.2, still the option by default....ddd.PNG

Please advise on the next step since it was marked as implemented but not tested.

@tlagardeAJBTA ,

This is from a clean install of Revit 2024.2. The default is to combine into a single file. I'm not sure why yours is different.
