Predefine Family name

Predefine Family name

When you make a new family it's always called family1 or something. If you want to load it into your family in your project you first have to save it to give it a name.

I would like that you could define the name when you press "load the family in to project". That would save a lot of clicks and unnecessary family file saves.

I often just load the family into the project and rename it in the project browser

If you rename the imported family after importing you have to rename both the family as the family subtypes. If you import families with familyXX names on a regular basis and you forget that renaming the risk of overwriting (and that way losing work) is also huge.

Saving the family beforehand is in my eyes still the least inefficient way in solving this problem.

All you need to do is go to your family's parameters and generate a new or initial type which gets a proper name. That way when you close the family editor and load it into your project you can go for a file name that shows what type of family it is and which Revit version it adheres to.
First saving/modelling something arbitrarily and then reshaping (or renaming) it to make do seems to be basic Revit philosophy. Take my vote anyway.
