Place Spot Elevations on Topography in Sections or Elevation Views

Place Spot Elevations on Topography in Sections or Elevation Views

This was a question of one of our costumers, which was trying to place Spot Elevations on the Topography in a section/elevation view. I tried it also and it seems not possible. I am aware of a workaround especially for site and topography stuff, so i solved the problem by exporting the topography as a DWG file and then link it back in, to the specific view origin-to-origin. But I lose the flexibility of the tag being updated as the topography changes.

So I thought let's post this as an idea, so that also topography can be tagged with spot elevations in a section/elevation view.

Hope you like this idea.

With kind regards,

Kelly Pelzer

This would be very helpful.

You create a topography, and then want to draw some site sections.

You add a section to the topography, and then want to show some levels of the topography.

But Revit won't allow place spot elevations on topography when in section.

This is a basic thing to do, Revit should place spot elevations in any view.

<ping> Three years and still nothing?

I feel like Revit would have been better off not having any topo tools at all. At least then our expectations would have been managed better. After all you can't expect to accomplish anything when there is no tool to use. As things are Revit's topo tools are sometimes worse than not having them at all... I feel an aneurysm coming on...

It seems that you can't place an elevation on the Toposurface however if you create a sub-region it recognizes. This might be a help for a few of you.

I found a workaround, by placing a reference plane (RP) on the part of the topo, and then using the spot elevation dimension it works perfectly.

I think this guy got the point.
It works awesomely.

I've encountered the problem that I cannot use spot elevation on a toposurface in a section view, which is really annoying when I want to annotate the terrain to use it as a reference in the project. A workaround for this is to make a roof that follows the toposurface, you can spot elevation on a roof in a section view. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but it would really be great if you could just spot elevation on a toposurface in any view.

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Hi, @jeroen.van.halderen ,

Here is a similar Idea...do you think we can combine this one with yours?

Thank you for your submission!

That post seems very similar indeed, @kimberly_fuhrman-jones, I agree with your remark to combine my idea with that post.
