Dear all,
I think since we started to build 3D-Models we have ignored important part of coordination and best implementation, as everybody know the Revit file size is limiting us from building one model that includes all discipline (STR,ARC and MEP) and sometime for big projects we need to break structure or MEP model to smaller models. We found out that to make model for each discipline is the solution and we can use these models as linked for coordination and later on to solve clashes by visual detect or using Navisworks. But that lead us to another issue LEAK OF COORINATION because as everybody know Revit can't deal with the linked elements at all !. so the below issues that everybody facing would be great if we focus on and found a way to overcome.
1- Ability to read the linked elements and ability to isolate them as you can do for host elements, and the reason is to understand and see the clashes with the host elements, so you can solve it.
2- Ability to join the host with the linked elements if both are have the same material and this is very important. please check the picture below.
The Picture above show one of the clashes that we are facing and to solve it you need to do void, lineworks, edit profile, ...etc.
What are the Benefits:
1- Reduce the time to solve the clashes, maybe you will say you can use easily Navis, but my answer is after you detect that clash you need to go back to Revit and make section box for every clash and this take a lot of time.
2- Precision for quantity take of, by applying the joining between elements (Host and Linked).
4- Plan detailing would be much easier and faster and you will reduce the need to use line works.
3- Better coordination and enhance collaboration.
