Material tags with thickness

Material tags with thickness

It would be really useful if you could tag a material for example in a wall and you could add the parameter to show the thickness/depth of that material within the wall.

As of now, if you want the depth you have to write it into the description and as such if you have several thicknesses of the same material you have to make several materials with different descriptions.

In legends we need measure and discription.

The materialdiscription need the variable in the family, thickness. the value is given back from the revitobject wich is to discribe.

I was wondering if there is method to extract material thickness for a given material as defined in the fabric build up.  I have read a few threads of extracting the value from Volume/Area, which to me is a little pedestrian.  I am come a perspective fabric engineering and analytics and the parameter of material thickness is needed for a variety of calculations and statements in the fabric design.  As building sciences is starting to rely more on granularity of materials the availability of this parameter would make analyses much more efficient.  Does Autodesk have any plans for making this happen.

Add a Thickness parameter to Materials, so you can use the same material and asset, but have thickness defined for reporting in schedules. This would be linked to the thickness parameter for a component layer in walls, floors, ceilings, and roof assemblies.

This is the only plugin which I have found that works, it can read the thickness and material. The only setback is that whole wall/floor/roof is considered. You cannot isolate the individual layer.
