Make 3D CAD Links Cuttable

Make 3D CAD Links Cuttable

3D CAD links (of piping, for example) appear in sections as if viewed from an infinite distance away (instead of just cutting through the elements at the section's cut plane). The current workaround is to link the CAD file into an in-place Generic Model. This is silly. If Revit knows how to "cut" the 3D CAD geometry when it's in a Generic Model family (which IS a cuttable category), why can't it do so when linking it in directly? This would also avoid the issue with Shared Coordinates not being respected when linking into In-Place families.

This is also related to the idea to have an option to make all families cuttable regardless of category: Cuttable vs Non-cuttable Families

EDIT: And somewhat related to linking civil 3d pipe networks into revit

Agreed.  Not only that, but the process of importing the 3D CAD into a Revit family by its very nature breaks the link to the original 3D CAD file, requiring the deletion and re-import of the 3D CAD model, then reloading of the family for all affected files with every update within the source 3D CAD file (or the creation of another container Revit model that holds the families that are constantly being updated).

Obviously the capability exists within Revit to classify the 3D CAD as a Generic Model (by the whole "import 3D CAD into family" process), it seems an easy thing to just make it a toggle button within the LINKED dwg properties to make it cuttable.

Nun ja die Übersetzung ist schon Unterirdisch,

aber das das nicht geht und die Produkte Advance Steel / Revit und Plant 3D nicht mit einander können ist genau so

unterirdisch und Ignorant wie gewohnt von der Firma
