link a sheet

link a sheet

It would be nice to be able to link a sheet from another file.

We have several projects that will use the same detail sheet, but I don't want to import the sheet. If we make a change to a detail, we have to re-import into multiple revit files and it is hard to keep track of.

I tried linking a PDF of the sheet, but it does not work well. It is raster, and when plotted it shows up poorly. It also increases the file size a lot.

Dear all

I'd like to confirmed that the feature for printing the linked revit model's sheet.

If this feature was available, could you please advice me in detailed.

If there are still not available ,please add it asap.

I think that this feature will be one of the most useful feature.

Best Regards,

Presently you can link a Revit model into a project.  You can see the sheets from the linked model via the schedule.  However, if you needed to see the sheets created within the model, you will have to open it and print it or have the author of the model to print it and send it to you.  It would be a good idea to have the linked model sheets display in the project browser as an uneditable view.  This we the user can see the design intent from a sheet view as well as see the model in question.

In addition to this, it would be great if we could print/export to PDF from the single host file. In projects where we have many linked files, this would increase productivity dramatically

Oh, this is very need to me!

That is the hold point. If you can see the sheet, why not be able to print the sheet. Good one.

In addition, being able to use View References, Sections, etc. that point to Views in those linked projects.

I cannot fully express how frustrated I was (years ago) when I discovered Autodesk's "Batch Print" add-in that allows us to... <drum roll> ...print all the Sheets in ONE project. Smiley Frustrated Um, WHAT?!

But does this also print the sheet in linked models...

Nope. Not even that. You can't select multiple projects to print from (linked or otherwise), so I don't see what's "batch" about it, or how it's significantly different from the regular Print...

Something I have been after for a long time! Not all projects are one building with MEP/Structure models linked....

We need this workflow so that we can print any link from one Master/Host file!

For anyone seeking ideas on this, that are similar to me (housing developer wanting to PDF several housetypes at once) my work around is the following....

Rather than using your site model, create a Master/Host model and place all of your links within 'placement boxes':

Revit Master Model.PNGWithin each placement box, you will already have floor plans and elevations set up within your template, these views will then already be placed onto your sheets. Place your links within the correct placement boxes and there you have it. Batch PDF all your sheets from the same file!

A painful workaround, but once your templates are set up it is fairly straight forward.

@Anonymous That's fine if you just need plans & elevations, and your floor levels (and building sizes) are consistent, but once you start cutting sections, have high windows, or any number of a million things that break the "one size fits all" template, it just becomes more trouble than it's worth.

Hi @lionel.kai

Completely agreed, this is just a workflow I have set up for my team for when we are producing planning applications (no sections needed). We will take street scene sections from our site models. But yes, anything more detailed or slightly away from the 'standard' then it complicates the workflow.

We should be able to print sheets from any linked model, and also change design options freely from any linked model. Please see my idea here:

RVT LINKS are good, but Autodesk could make them GREAT! We just need to be able to utilise them properly.

One big A,S,M,E,P cloud model for site projects would fix a lot of our issues! Including being able to view and print sheets.

One of the heaviest battles in Revit to date is Managing large-scale projects with multiple links. In many cases, we do not need to link in an entire Revit file and we may just need to link in one or 2 views. Other cases, we would like to link in sheets. Is there a way for us to generate link for ONLY a specific view or sheet using "Sheet Links" or "View Links" in Revit? For instance, we have a file currently with 27 linked files. One of these files has a series of 1:200 overall floor plans that are used as "Key Plans" to reference blow-up floor plans. In order for us to adequately identify all the keyplans, all 27 links need to be visible in the project. It would be much easier to create each of these key plans in their own linked files, then link the actual sheet back to the plot file (without having to turn on an actual revit link in the project). instead of maxing out our RAM/Virtual Memory when it tries to open 20gb worth of Revit links. There must be a way!

This is what i am thinking!

Yes, this would help the files not be so slow.

Make it possible to link sheets from a Revit file into another Revit file. The link is always live and linked sheets are updated automatically (including the revision status) when they have been updated in the original file it resides. This would enable all sheets (or selected sheets) for a project that is made up of many different Revit files to be printed from the one Revit file.

Hi, @draarchitects ,

Here is a similar Idea that currently has 57 votes: Linked Revit Sheets Display - Autodesk Community. We would like to merge your Idea with this one to give both Ideas a boost.

Thank you!

Hi Kimberly,
I am happy to have the ideas merge if it would help get this idea across the line. I have no idea how this is done though - I do not regularly post to Autodesk forums. Do I put my idea in the comments ?
Regards
Warwick

@draarchitects  I can merge them for you. Thank you for your submission!
