link a sheet

link a sheet

It would be nice to be able to link a sheet from another file.

We have several projects that will use the same detail sheet, but I don't want to import the sheet. If we make a change to a detail, we have to re-import into multiple revit files and it is hard to keep track of.

I tried linking a PDF of the sheet, but it does not work well. It is raster, and when plotted it shows up poorly. It also increases the file size a lot.

"What if" we could link entire sheets or specific views and/or recreated sheets with specific views in models (See link below)

This would allow :

  • Linking entire sheets in the set or representing sheets available to print in the print menu dialog(How to account for potential line weight and object style differences?). Like scheduling linked files but for printing.
  • Re-creating sheets and linking the corresponding views onto sheets (Similar to export as cad and link into view process which is terrible!)
  • Re-creating sheets and views on sheets in a model and linking view contents into those views (including drafting details) so that independently permitted Building.Shell&Core sets derivatives could be independently permitted/revised using a master set of detail items.
  • Convert link & insert feature (as image, as vector, as objects/group)

*Linked views would need a level of control over graphic elements - like excluding or "NOT PRINTGIN" and highlighting "No-Print" items like REVISION CLOUDS in the view.

This linking of components similar to Microdesk's approach for federated content in that only content needed (views) is loaded and represented.

Another candidate to merge "Linked views/sheets"

Another vote for this idea. We have a project where part of it is on a slanted grid system, which makes our internal software to produce elevations and dimensions not work. We solved that by putting that portion of the building on a separate linked file. But printing this project is really annoying and adding this feature would simplify it.

Few options with Revit / BIM 360 links & Ideas for implementation/ QAQC/ Breakage

I would like Revit to be able to link sheets from other Revit files to a single Revit file (not just display the sheet name from a Revit linked file as is currently the case). This would allow printing of campus style projects made up of many single Revit files from the one Revit file that contains all the linked sheets.

use dwf format to export and reimport in the model it will align on the same sheet

@deepika_Skets that will not help. There's a better function if I want to import the sheet "insert views from file".

As the title says, I want to link a sheet, not import.

inked sheets print from the Host Revit model

This or an actually functional cloud supported batch plot is an absolute need as a feature. Trying to manage annotations and details when structures move around on a site is nearly impossible without having 10+ different models to host sheets for each structure. We either have to sacrifice the time it takes to print sheets or the time it takes to fix annotations when structures move, both of which are very costly on fast-paced projects.

Definitely necessary. We can currently insert 2D content (Sheets, Drafting Views, Schedules). It would be amazing to link them (schedules not necessary). That would be a game changing! OP talked about Typical Sheets. There are also typical details that would be incredibly beneficial to be able to link without the Model View workaround in case you would like to have typical details to make similar but slightly different typical sheets depending on the scenario.

LINKING Sheets and Drafting Views, in addition to Inserting the 2D content would be huge and prevent many potential errors due to duplicate content resulting from inserting "copies" into a project.
