Legend Space

Legend Space

The legend tools in Revit are...let's say (to be polite), wanting.  I don't use them.  I draw all legends in a future phase which works wonderfully well except a legend drawn in plan view is only allowed on one sheet.  I've gotten around this by creating many dependent views of each legend.

What Revit really needs is a "legend space".  A completely separate 3D workspace with it's own views that share the following with the "model space":

  -View templates

  -Families

  -phases

  -groups

The only difference in the views in legend space can be place on many sheets, not just one.

Thank you for the suggestion to combine, however conglomerated threads of very different Ideas, even though related to the same feature, are actually more difficult to manage (i.e. they may never be marked as Accepted or Implemented!).

Hi All,

Today I feel vindicated with my opinion that legends are half-baked, because apparently Autodesk has the same opinion!  In the 2024 sample project they resorted to the same half-baked work-around by drawing legend model elements in a different phase.  It works, but, as with all half-baked solutions, your staff will HATE dealing that all the pitfalls involved in making it work.  Interestingly, they use a previous phase instead of a future phase.  I think using a future phase makes it less likely that legend model elements will accidently be shown in a view that shows elements from previous phases.
