Key Plan linked to Enlarged Plan's Crop Region

Key Plan linked to Enlarged Plan's Crop Region

Clients and contractors love key plans because they are extremely helpful in locating oneself in the plans. Typically, the design team is familiar enough with the project that they don't need key plans but for anyone that has picked up a large set of plans for the first time, key plans significantly simplify reading plans.

However, key plans are cumbersome and are not often provided due to the effort required to create and manage them. My current workflow for key plans requires numerous duplications of the floor plan (a copy for each key plan region). A fill region is then created for each of the enlarged plans.

I would propose a special key view type. Like legends, key views could be located on multiple sheets. When sheeting the key view Revit would prompt you to link to an enlarged plan's crop region. The link would generate a fill region for each key view.

This would simplify the process for creating and managing key plans and make them more common to the drawing set. The feature should extend to all views including elevations, sections and ceiling plans.
