Keep "Activate dimensions" function ON for a time period (or Shortcut for that)

Keep "Activate dimensions" function ON for a time period (or Shortcut for that)

When we place dimensions for families that have nested shared families inside, we need to click on "Activate dimensions" every time we want to change a dimension.

It is frustrating that you always need to click on "Activate dimensions" and it makes modeling slower.

Idea is to have a possibility to keep "Activate dimensions" functionality ON for some time period.

Another way to make it easier would be to create a shortcut for "Activate dimensions"

absolutely infuriating that Revit simply decides to disable this function based on some arbitrary time to calculate algorithm. Autodesk fail

Absolutely should be a feature.

In the meantime - as a quicker update --- providing access to the "activate dimensions' with keyboard shortcuts would be great. That way you can at least select and quickly "AD" to turn them on rather than moving the mouse.

Should have been implemented YEARS ago.

NO REASON ON THIS PLANET that activate dimensions should every get disabled. Or if there is one, then give us a global toggle so we decide whether or not it should get disabled ... permanently, that is. A shortcut is only half a solution - why not simply a toggle that decides whether or not Activate Dims is ON or OFF ... this is beyond any logics whatsoever.

Agreed. This is a must.

Makes me want to go back to the 2016 version of Revit...Dimensions were always active and I and my students were able to modify dimensions as needed.  This is a ridiculous change and in my option a downgrade

Yes please! This needs to get fixed.

I see this is still "gathering support" 3 years on... I have a structural client with this issue - every single time he wants to move a gridline, because there are columns and beams on it, he can't move the gridline without selecting Activate Dimensions. It's so clumsy and distracting from the workflow. Common Autodesk, figure this out!! A shortcut to activate dims OR a global setting to enable them. What's the point of turning them off?!

Autodesk are ridiculous when it comes to addressing such issues from forums. It's such a shame. And this is the best company out there ... ROFL.

BUMP. NEED THIS FEATURE AND SHORTCUT

I understand that there may be performance issues with keeping dimensions "activated" all the time, but they should at least allow a 2 letter shortcut to be assigned to "activate dimensions"

I'd like to go ahead and bump this again for the new year!  This needs to happen. What a pain!

Agree that this should be added.

Bit of an anti-feature.

Are we ever going to get this "feature" .. ?

Can't believe that placing a simple thing like a detail group takes moving the mouse and clicking a button .. for every single detail group.

not sure if mentioned before, but there same discussion here at external link

Automatically Activate Dimensions - Revit Forum

See in comments similar feelings that Autodesk can't/won't put the effort in to fix the little things and would rather add feature that less than 0.001% use. A similar discussion in this regard in Better Functionality for Legends!! - Page 4 - Autodesk Community

I think this has finally been fixed in Revit 2023. Detail Groups will automatically show temporary dimensions when selected now. There isn't an "Activate Dimensions" button when they're selected.

By "fixing" this issue, Autodesk now requires now that you click on the button "Activate" under Controls to show Temporary Dimensions when you select multiple elements.
