Insulation Phasing
Similar to my discussion on "Displaced Pipes should Carry Insulation," pipe insulation should be linked to the host pipe's phasing. There are very annoying issues with demo and existing pipe and its associated phasing.
I see zero value in having pipe or duct insulation be so disassociated with its host.
To my knowledge, when you want to change the phase of a handful of pipe/fittings with insulation, you have to first change the phase of the insulation (select all the pipe, edit the insulation, change the phase). Then select all the pipe/fittings and change their phase.
If you forget and start by changing the phase of the pipe/fitting to a future phase, now the pipe/fittings disappear but the insulation is still there but you can't select it to edit. So you have to undo...or change the current phase of the view, change the insulation's phase & then reset the current phase of the view. I also see zero value in having the phase of pipe or duct insulation be disassociated from its host.
Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea. Unfortunately, this idea did not get the support of the community over the last 6 months and as such we will not be pursuing it at this time. Please feel free to rework (titles and clear descriptions are really important) and resubmit this one down the road.
Anyone found a good workaround for this? The fact that pipe insulation doesn’t follow the host pipe’s phase properly causes a lot of issues, especially with demolition. If you change the pipe’s phase first, the insulation gets stuck, and you can’t modify it. The trick of editing the insulation first works, but it’s a pain in big models.
