Improve AutoCAD compatibility with Revit

Improve AutoCAD compatibility with Revit

It would be very helpful to have better control over the visibility and properties of AutoCAD layers directly inside Revit. Specifically:

  • Ability to turn hatches on/off or control their visibility independently.
  • Ensure that the original AutoCAD layer colors are respected when imported or linked.
  • Full control over line weights, colors, and line types for AutoCAD layers, as changing them through Object Styles does not always work consistently and sometimes requires adjusting per view or via templates.
  • A more intuitive way to manage and override layer properties without having to edit the DWG file in AutoCAD.

These improvements would greatly enhance the workflow when working with linked or imported DWG files, reducing the need for repetitive adjustments and minimizing errors.

The thing I hate the most is that everything need to be by layer... 100% of the autocad files we use are not - there is always some line that is dashed that has an override in the element... To have full control in revit, we need to catch them and put them in a new layer and have the element be by layer... only then Object Style changes do fully apply... Though I understand the reason - this workflow is horrible. I really would like to link and autocad and be done with that, the only thing I may would like to do was to change color or thikness - never the line pattern (if only it came ok...)...

You can override linework within Revit.

Modify Tab -> Linework Tool (shown below)

What I mean is to have more control over the visibility of all CAD elements (lines and hatches). Indeed, now the line style and color can be changed from Object Styles, View, Template, or per element with the Linework tool, but Object Styles fails quite a lot. Also, the colors change when importing (light colors turning black, etc.). And what is not possible now is to change the hatch pattern or override the color while controlling whether the change applies to the background or foreground — right now everything changes together.
