This shouldn't even be a thing, but as this is Revit, it is a thing... when spot elevations are placed on a toposolid, and then the toposolid sub-elements are modified, the Revit throws warnings that the spot elevations will be deleted. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN!!! This behavior / programming - or lack of programming - is not acceptable. As a project develops and annotations are added, it is inevitable that modifications to the project design will happen. Including modifications to the toposolid sub-elements, which control grade and contours. Spot elevations on toposolids need to update as modifications are made, just like dimensions update when the element they dimension are modified. Important information is lost when spot elevations are deleted, and it's time consuming and non-sensical to locate and document every spot elevation that will be deleted, and then replace each one.  Show More

Quick changing of section depth: I work a lot with sections. It would be nice to have a possibility for an easy and quick changing of a  section depth (that is beginning of the depth and end of the depth) with an option in rightclik menu when selecting a section or better a command to do that (not to have to make a rightlick). To illustrate - If the user wants to change a section to begin from Point A and to end in Point B, he hast to move the section, and wait for regeneration (what takes a while in larger projects), and then change the section depth, and wait for regeneration.  Autodesk, please add a function to make it in two mouse clicks (on point A and B).   Show More

I will present them in this and next posts.   Incomprehensible extending a pipe to the half of another pipe: When extending a pipe or a duct to another pipe or duct I noticed a strange behavior of revit - when I want to pick a target pipe (an Axis) Revit (2026 and earlier versions) highlights left or right half o the pipe or half ot he insulation instead if the Axis. Why ? Why a half and not a quarter for example?...  A small request to Autodesk for fixing that function to simply highlighting the Axis as a target. I also noticed that revit highlights Target elements (half of them) fe. pipefittings when there is no posibility to extend elements to them. Then what for revit highligts them? Show More

Hello Revit Community, I would like to share a few ideas for improving the basic operating in Revit. I will present them in this and next posts. Too short / too narrow lists of views: Too narrow lists result in problems with selecting desired View because displayed is only a part of the name of the view. In the era of large monitors there is no point making windows small. This window in the screenshot should have automatically adjusted width to the length of the containing text or at least adjustable bottom corner like windows explorer.    I do myself some Programming (but for Autocad). It would be great if data from nested families was available within the family it is nested into. There are many ways this could be used, but the main use case for my firm would be setting up window families. We often need to calculate the total area of glass used in a window and the total area of operable portions of the window. Currently we use complex formulas to get these simple numbers, since reporting parameters are unable to be used in type formulas. If data from nested families was available, we could set up nested glass and operable window families with area parameters and just grab the sum of their areas. We cannot use shared families for this because we need Revit to read the window as one piece since we use Room Calculation Points to get ratios of the light and air provided in each room in our project.   In the window shown below I would like to harvest the relevant data from each highlighted panel.          Below is an example of the formulas needed. To get the areas we need to basically find the total height and width of the glass and the operable window. This tends to be done by taking the total height and width and then subtracting the mullions from the total, but the formulas are different for each window layout. Show More

I will present them in this and next posts.   Highlightning text in Properties palette When the user clicks any editable field in properties palette then the whole text should be marked. The cursor to edit text should appear after the second click on this field in the place where the user wants to edit text – just like it is in any field in Firefox, in windows explorer, in Autocad or any other program. Currently the toggle symbol representing disallow join in walls is the same as allow join in beams. And the other way too - allow join in walls is the same as disallow in beams. Currently, Revit requires users to manually select or create print sets to manage sheets with different orientations (landscape and portrait). When a project includes both orientations, batch printing becomes inefficient because users must either print each orientation separately or maintain multiple print sets. When doing these sheets must be printed in separate files, combining is not an option and inefficient. Proposed Improvement: Add the ability for each sheet view to store its print orientation (Landscape or Portrait) as part of its properties with print detection. This would allow Revit to automatically detect and apply the correct orientation when performing a batch print, combined multiple to a single file without the need for manual sorting or multiple print sets. I have been using Revit since versions prior to 8.1. Revit has evolved over time but there has been little to no focus for Landscape Architecture. Our Australian Company (Urbis) took on Revit for Landscape back in 2017. We understand Revit was initially designed for Architectural and Engineering Disciplines. I am finding more and more Landscape Company's now use Revit. It would be great that Autodesk can put some focus on Landscape Architecture in Revit.   A good start would be to have the following; a) Softscape Revit Category? b) Hardscape Revit Category? c) A Fence Revit Category? d) A Landscape Tab with some basic tools (see Landscape modelling Notes below)? e) A Landscape Discipline in View Properties?   Landscape Modelling Notes; For Landscape modelling we generally use Architectural Floor and Wall Elements. It be great if the Floor element can be made into a Softscape Catergory. Site Component and Site tools can be added to the Landscape tab. Hello Revit Community, I would like to share a few ideas for improving the basic operating in Revit. I will present them in this and next posts. Missing Icon to rotate a fitting in counterclockwise direction: When selecting a fitting there appears a blue icon to rotate this object but only in one direction (clockwise). What's more this icon changes its position so the user cannot quickly click the second time but he has to move the mouse cursor to the new position to click what makes the work slower. It would make a work faster when there were two icons clockwise and counterclockwise so that the user could pick the disered direction.   A small request to Autodesk for improving this process.     Show More

Hello Revit Community, I would like to share a few ideas for improving the basic operating in Revit. I will present them in this and next posts. Selecting objects in Revit extremely hard. A would have a request to Autodesk to work a little bit on making selecting objects in Revit easier because it is ver very hard and it is irritating how effort I have to put to pick objects. Revit nearly always (90% of the cases) selects not what I want. It seems to me that the programmers couldn't do it right so they implemented a function to toggle objects with Tab button. In Autocad for example it is simple - I can select that on what I point the cursor. Example 1: If the user hovers a mouse cursor on the pipe to select it, Revit selects some other objects like they have some invisible boundaries that are accidentally in a range of the cursor.   Example 2: The user cannot normally mark an object until he reaches with the cursor the end of invisible boundaries of the object.     Show More

Typing distance while moving/copying   and holding Shift key not possible Holding Shift while moving or copying an object activates the ortho mode. Unfortunately the mode works only when the user specifies the distance freely with mouse – but doesn’t work when the user wants additionally type the distance on keyboard. So the user has to let go the shift key and position the moving/copying direction precisely with the cursor, what requires more carefulness and makes the work slower.   Show More

There is great value in extending Revit’s core hierarchy (Category → Family → Type → Instance) into the Right-Click Menu on selection mode — specifically for Selection, Override Graphics in View, and Hide in View commands. Currently, via Right-Click Menu, these commands operate inconsistently and don’t align with Revit’s hierarchy. Therefore, users have rely on VG dialog, filters, or schedules — slowing down workflows and disrupting the modeling process. Right-Click Menu Proposed Enhancements   1. Selection Command       1.1. The current View Break (from the Plan Crop Region) is great for showing separated areas (like two distant parts of a plan) on one sheet. But after creating and adjusting the break, we still have to manually draft a break symbol and add text/dimensions to show the true distance between those areas. This is time-consuming and a bit frustrating. Request: When we create a plan View Break, Revit should automatically: Place a standard break/gap symbol at the split. Add an annotation that shows the true physical distance that was “removed,” and keep it updated if the View Break changes. Optionally control that annotation/symbol with a Yes/No instance visibility parameter.                         Show More
