I wish dates were real dates and not free form text

There ought to be a way to set up one and only one date format for a projects. Once this has been set this date format should be enforced by Revit anywhere where a date is entered. Dates should be entered via a date picker and not as free form text.

Optionally, Revit could offer the users to set up a number of date formats and let the user choose which format to use when entering dates. Default format should be used as the initial choice.

This would be very helpful in many cases. Revision schedules and revisions on sheets is just one example.

Letting people type in dates as free form text is inviting errors and frustration. Humans are just not very good at formatting stuff 😉

Agreed-ish.  As long as there is also a capacity to change the format in selected areas (the same way other units can be overridden in Labels and Schedules). For example, it's best to use the 4-digit year wherever possible, but in a revision schedule there may be only room for 2 digits. Or month name vs. number, etc.

@lionel.kai Yes, defintely there would need to be a way to override as required. I alluded to this by suggesting that we should be able to set up a number of formats and choose the most appropriate as needed with some sensible default.

Something similar to Text Fields in MS Word or AutoCAD, that can be linked to parameters.

This will allow the user to insert a reference to the sheet in the text.

 We need, not just the formatting of a Date, but and actual Date parameter that would allow addition and subtraction.
