Fix the broken filters in "Modify | Place Dimension filter" (Face of core)

Fix the broken filters in "Modify | Place Dimension filter" (Face of core)

At a minimum- Fix faces of core so they only snap to faces of core.

Construction drawings 101- When creating dimensions use the faces of the core of the walls so the framers can snap the lines and shoot the studs or tracks to the floors. Nice clean to the whole 1" dimensions ideally.

chrome_kubJUsCpr7.pngProblem: Revit "Faces of core" Dimension filter is broken. It should, as advertised, only snap to "faces of core" but fails as it snaps to everything in the wall types. This can be a real pain if 2 layers of 5/8" gyp pus an entire corridor wall 1-1/4" into a corridor and now the corridor doesn't meet ADA specs and fails inspection.

Other dimension filter problems:

Wall Centerlines- Fails for Linked files; works as expected- only snaps to centerlines.

Wall Faces- Fails - also snaps to centerlines

Center of Core- (Will it fail for linked files too?) - Otherwise works correctly

Faces of core - Epic fail! Snaps to everything.

Autodesk Revit Dev team - if you want to go the extra mile:)

Allow (custom) sets of snap hierarchies based on the following:

  • Exterior face of finish
  • Exterior face of core
  • Interior face of core
  • Interior face of finish

And really fancy:

Top, Bottom, Left, right (Normal direction to "Plan North") applicable to the above as a modifier

Once the first line is picked or tabbed, it cycles to the second, the third and so on.

Some sample sets:

  • Finish Faces
    • Exterior Face of finish
    • Interior face of finish
  • Layout Dims Tops and Rights
    • Right Face of core
    • Top of Face of core
  • All Out to In
    • Exterior face of finish
    • Exterior face of core
    • Interior face of core
    • Interior face of finish
  • All
    • *   (Asterisk for all remaining  - None specified - use tab to select)
  • Clear Dimension left to right top to bottom
    • Right face of finish
    • Left face of finish
    • Bottom face of finish
    • Top face of finish

Hi @lim.wendy - Been getting "Authentication Ticket Mismatched, failed authentication. Return to my original page"

Constantly on the forum - took forever to post this idea as it would bomb out frequently in the middle of editing prior to even posting. Eventually I had to edit in WORD and past into the document, come back and edit to ad images.

Even with Script safe and ghostery OFF & everything open - it still fails.

I Thought also - a syntax for specifying what to snap to - there may be cases where if one is chosen, not to choose the other in a dimensioning language.

Where combinations of:

Ron.Allen-DimFilterRules.png

Family categories - all families(filtered per discipline?)
Revit_u7KVelQgqC.png

* = all, if * specified without modifiers ALL layers are available for the selection in the order above

Sample Subset rules:

  • Rule Set Name/Identifier
(Description for filter selector under options )
  • Rule 1 / Name
Description ID (what it does and why)
    • Family(* or blank For all)
      • One of these subset rules     - Once one of these are chosen the category is satisfied and elements removed from selection, and the next rule is execute. Once all rules executed, not more selections for that string+Object allowed.
      • Second choice for subset rule
      • Third choice for subset rule
  • Rule 2 / Name
Description ID (what it does and why)
    • Family(* or blank For all)
      • One of these subset rules     - Once one of these are chosen the category is satisfied and elements removed from selection
      • Second choice for subset rule
      • Third choice for subset rule

Rule sets selectable from the options bar on select or mid-process of dimensioning

Some  rule sets might look like:

  • RULE SET 1: Wall layout dimensions
WALL Framing Layouts - Tops and Rights
  • Family: Walls. Curtain Walls, Curtain systems
Snap only to  faces of core for tops and rights in plan
  • RULE 1: Top/Right of core #1
    • Right Face of core
  • RULE 2: Top/Right of core #2
    • Top Face of core

  • RULE SET 2: ONE face of finish
Used as a subset in the selection. Face of finish Exterior    (per wall)
  • Family: Walls. Curtain Walls, Curtain systems
  • RULE 1: Exterior face of finish - Once exterior or interior are snapped, no more snaps available for that dimension(string) on that object(wall)
    • Finish 2 - Exterior
    • Finish 1 - exterior

  • Rule Set 3:
    Faces of Finish
  • Family: Walls. Curtain Walls, Curtain systems
    • RULE1: Clear finish dimensions
    • Finish 2 - Interior
    • Finish 1 - interior
    • RULE2: Clear finish dimensions
    • Finish 2 - Interior
    • Finish1 - interior

  • Rule Set 4:
    Snap All
  • Family: *              =             apply Tab for everything else
    • Rule1: Snap everything
      •  *    =             apply Tab for everything else
