Family View: Create isolated 3D and Detail views of a Family Within a Project

Family View: Create isolated 3D and Detail views of a Family Within a Project

I'm imagining being able to create a separate 3D (or 2D) view of one family that is loaded into the project without having to be looking at the project. Instead of a detail view or 3D view, this could be called a Family View. (see snip.)

In many structural projects there are small families such as embed plates and base plates that need to be drawn separately in an isolated detail view. Our company makes 2D and 3D details of such objects. In order to do that, the 3D views have to to be in a separate model that only has the embeds. We then create the views within that model and lock them. That model is loaded into the actual project as required.

How my life would be simplified with this capability!

Another good workaround for this is the newish feature called "assemblies." But that's still not quite what I'm asking for.

Your idea sounds similar to these ones:

Legend Space

Better Functionality for Legends!!

Improve LEGEND

would be beneficial to have isolated area where only a family is shown with the ability to have it's own plans, sections, elevations & 3D views & assemblies made from parts.

In addition the ability to show how a family might interact with another family ie window in a wall in an isolated environment where the whole project is not required.

for reference this could be nice additions to the legend views

3D / Isometric views in Legend

Wow yes, if legends could do 2d views that would be very close to what I want!

To be honest I really can do this with assemblies, now that I'm messing with it. Legends aren't as good as assemblies because you have a lot less control, for example, over viewing depth.

The biggest difference between assemblies and what I'm asking for is that you wouldn't have to have an instance of the family in your project in order to create the view. I want it to be more like a drafting view so you can copy the 3D views into other projects. Then we could have 3D views in our standard details that we copy into projects.

Like this. Right now we can copy that drafting view but not the 3D part of it because that was made with an assembly. This is the kind of standard detail we want.
