AHJ's (government authorities having jurisdiction) typically have been requiring (architects) to provide building facade exhibits that break down % of exterior material by face/elevation. Ie. 30% masonry, 20% siding, 20% stucco, 10% metal panel, 20% opening, etc.. Then that same information can be used when compiling COM check building envelope wall areas.
Since this is not an easy process in Revit, our current workflow is to export elevations to CAD. This converts the wall material hatches into CAD hatches. Then manually clicking on a hatch gives the area for the entire material on that facade we then type into excel. The whole process becomes time consuming and tedious especially on complicated facades. The process in revit would also be manual. We would need to recreate the hatch regions as an overlay essentially doing what the CAD export does natively. And then gather the areas and do the same tabulations in excel. It is more time consuming to do this process in Revit than it is in CAD.
Since Revit models are just a database with a pretty GUI, there has to be a way to extract/query that data automatically into a schedule without all the manual back and forth. And there would need to be options. Some AHJ's say to exclude the window and door openings from the calculations while others want openings including with the calcs. This could be done with filters or another method.
