Embedded Detailing Views, Sheets, and Schedules in Revit Families

Embedded Detailing Views, Sheets, and Schedules in Revit Families

It would be incredibly useful if Revit allowed users to create detailing views (sections, elevations, callouts) and even sheets inside families. These views would include dimensions, notes, and annotations, so when the family is loaded into a project, all necessary details are already set up.

Currently, if a project requires detailed documentation of multiple family types (e.g., different window sizes or furniture configurations), users have to manually create sheets, views, and schedules for each type, adding dimensions and annotations repeatedly. This is time-consuming and redundant.

With this feature, users could:

  • Define detail views inside the family itself.
  • Automatically generate sheets with pre-configured annotations when the family is loaded into a project.
  • Include predefined schedules that adapt to the family’s parameters.
  • Maintain consistency across projects without recreating views and schedules for each instance.
  • Easily export these detailed views and schedules for documentation.

This would significantly streamline the documentation process, especially for projects with repetitive custom elements.

@flexti19 I don't know if this may help but I keep a library of catalogued drafting views in a master file for that specific purpose, but it would be nice if you were able to create text and dimensions within the families that would be visible in the main drawing which what you're implying?

@Mark_Engwirda . Yes, my idea is to allow families to include detailing views (with dimensions, text, etc.) that are embedded within the family itself. So when the family is loaded into the project, those views would already be set up—without needing to manually manage drafting view libraries or create new sheets for each family type. The goal is to make the process more efficient and reduce repetitive work.
