Egress Path

Egress Path

There should be a a tool in the Analyze tab where you can create a Path of Egress in a way where you pick the start (furthest corner) and the door of which you terminate the path of egress and the path is then calculated and drawn in a dashed linetype. This would also ideally take into account getting through door families.

Coinciding with this should be the ability to create a schedule of "Path Types" (if you have 2 or more paths exiting through the same door).

I'm not opposed to this, but it would have to be a more robust tool to be useful. Is the egress path a common path or one you take to get to the point of two exits? Which occupant loads travel on it?  Is it all of them or half of them?  In some spaces that egress path must be defined (down aisles in fixed seating assembly, along the accessible route, etc.) and the program wouldn't be able to calculate it without other inputs.  Right now we use a custom adaptive point family, combined with information in our doors, but it does require all manual inputs.

You would definitely need some sort of control over the path to an extent (similar to a spline).

I would like to think it would work in a similar/reverse effect to how the Mechanical Duct and Fittings tools do... you would have a main path of travel, then apply certain factors such as room loads and junctions at certain points.

I think something like this would also have to have some kind of information as to what's outside those doors.

i.e. one door might lead to a relatively narrow walkway while the other door might lead to a wide open space -- thus although maybe further away from some people the second door may still be the better option.

All these additional features are nice, but I would prefer at least the initial request gets implemented sooner, with an option to make it expandable to include the more complicated options.

We have the same settings as @jkidder adaptive points in 3D so when we need to show an egress path in an auditorium for example it is possible since there is a height(elevation)  to consider along the path. I second @Anonymous for implementing a solution even simple so we can start with something. I will also propose to have it conditional for display Yes or No and using our custom line type.

There is still no useful easy to use egress mapping or tracking tool. Adaptive components, detail lines and railings are just not functioning well for my facilities. I recently watched a presentation on the new circuit path tool in 2018. Can this same tool principle be used to create a visible path, calculation, description and whatever else for a exit path from a point in a structure to an egress door.

Revit developers are currently working on this, you can see:

http://blogs.autodesk.com/revit/2017/08/31/revit-roadmap-update-august-2017/

"We are adding an item for Evacuation Simulation to our roadmap. The goal of this project is to display evacuation information like heat maps, evacuation paths, travel distances, and people evacuation animation directly within Revit without having to leave your design. We want you to help you understand the impact of code requirements and fire safety on your design. This is what we mean when we talk about providing you tools to optimize your design. We want to help you by providing you access to innovative simulation and visualization tools so you can understand your design better and work in an iterative way."

Is that "Preview Release" covered under NDA?  If so that picture needs to be removed.

No its a picture from a Revit 2018 video on Electrical Circuiting Path feature. What I was saying was Egress could work similar to this...

Hi Everyone,

We have added this idea to our Revit roadmap.  Thanks for voting and providing your feedback.

This is available now in both Revit 2020.2 and Revit 2021 as the new Path of Travel Functionality.  Allowing you to create shortest paths as well as waypoints to understand people movement through your building.  You can also schedule and tag these objects and using Dynamo or our API access them as well.

Thank you
