Dimension to Center of Radial Dimensions

Dimension to Center of Radial Dimensions

Dimensioning to the center of a curve radius is critical to provide information to a contractor on where to locate curves when building. Currently the only way to dimension to a center of a radius in a modeled element is for radial walls, with "Center Mark Visible" checked in their properties.  This is unsatisfactory for several reasons:

  • The center mark then shows up in all views.  There is no subcategory for center marks, and typically you don't want to see them anywhere but the view you are dimensioning in to avoid confusion and clutter.
  • There are other curved elements that need the center mark of their radial dimensions located, most commonly ceilings and floors, but also non-system families like custom casework.

The work around is to draw a dumb set of lines to dimension to, but this requires careful coordination, and doesn't update as the model does.

The center mark of a radial dimension should be able to be dimensioned to, the same way a point on a wall corner might - tab to highlight.  Ideally there would also be a provision for demensioning to the center mark when a radial dimension isn't present, perhaps hoovering over the curve and tabbing to select.
