Cut Tool Enhancement - Allow Linked Geometry to Cut Model Elements

Cut Tool Enhancement - Allow Linked Geometry to Cut Model Elements

It would be really useful if you could use the Cut Tool to use linked geometry to cut objects in host file.

Example

You link in the Structural Engineers model into your file containing the wall cladding. The floor structure overlaps the stud layer of your wall cladding. If these too objects were in the same file you would just use the Cut Tool to remove the stud layer at the intersection with the floor. It would be good if the Cut Tool allowed you to do the same by selecting the geometry in the linked file to make the cut.

Hi @dazza1639

I find your idea more than necessary. Any news from Auto Desk 3 years later?

How are you supposed to coordinate models without such tool?

Other example:

The mechanic engineer provides a model containing all the perforations needed, represented by volumes.

How can architects actually cut the affected elements (walls, ceilings, etc) in their models?

I appreciate any hint in this respect

Cheers,

Wow, any update on this? It is highly useful to be able to do perform this with linked models. Would save us so much time in coordination!

Nope, still can't do this.

With the release of 2024 and the new Toposolid this is needed more than ever.

Now to show the substructure properly we need to cut the toposolid with our structural foundations. However we can't cut the toposolid if it is linked in from another file, which is a very common workflow on large projects with multiple building projects on the same site.
