Convert Areas to 3D

Convert Areas to 3D

Problem:

When working in the earliest phases of a proposal or project, we often create 3D programming & blocking/stacking views to convey the ideas in our presentations. Currently, I use a workaround with spaces to create the sections and axons that I need. Sadly, this requires redundant work

Idea:

If Areas were 3 dimensional, we could greatly enhance the usability of them for presentation and visualization purposes. We should be able to see areas in section & axon as well as in an area plan.

Thanks,

Have you tried using the "In Place Mass"? This will give you cubic feet, and I believe even square feet plus it can be use to easily create walls floors and ceilings. It's intended for the whole building and not room by room, but I believe it could still be used that way. Just a thought.

In place masses are way too clunky in such situations. We need to be able to move quickly with adjustments. If we create an in place mass for each area, each one has to be updated individually which would be beyond cumbersome. Try doing that for 25 departments in a new hospital building, compounded by the fact that they do necessarily occur in the same place or size on each floor.

Good point. I've used spaces with space separation lines before, but that was only a single floor office building. It was nice though because it was schedulable and I was even able to tie it to a color legend by department. Not sure if that would work in 3D though, I would think it should.

Spaces are 3D and can be used in a pinch for 3D & section representation. Unfortunately, as I said in the original suggestion, they force redundant work which greatly slows down the process.

Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea. Unfortunately, this idea did not get the support of the community over the last 6 months and as such we will not be pursuing it at this time. Please feel free to rework (titles and clear descriptions are really important) and resubmit this one down the road.
