Consistent User Interface -revisited

Consistent User Interface -revisited

Posted this idea way back in 2016, but it only gathered 18 votes so far. Pretty disappointing. So I would like to repost the idea, in the hope it will gain far more support. The reason: the UI being a real pain. I'm busy modifying the template materials and fill patterns. To rename a fill pattern, F2 won't do - you have to click the pencil. Even worse in the material dialog. F2 won't work and there's no pencil - you have to right-click and select rename. Sigh. And there are a lot more dialogs all having their own ways of dealing with the same stuff.

So make your vote!

Including in the family editor. Commands should be consistent. Creating a detail line in a model is different from creating an annotation line in a family. Adding "Check all/Check none" to all lists of checkboxes, etc.

What is your idea about? Is it about inconsistencies in different windows and dialogs in terms of layout, if so, could you add some pictures to clarify this? Otherwise the developers won't tackle this request.... Don't get me wrong, I fully agree with you their are major UI inconsistencies and unfortunately, they require quite tedious workarounds most of the time.

Also for missing keyboard shortcuts, I created this idea post where all shortcuts can be consolidated so they gain the attention they deserve — and would not get when addressed individually. Feel free to add the ones you are missing there.

Agreed. Other inconsistent UI elements include:

  • F2 to trigger cell editing is just the start. The various places for text entry do not respect Home, End, Ctrl+Left, Ctrl+Right, Ctrl+A (standard Windows cursor movement plus their Shift key selection compadres) in the same way (or not at all).
  • Ribbon keyboard shortcuts that do not work as advertised (look at you Alt,G,OB) or are missing entirely.

In general, the mix-and-mush of third-party UI controls with non-standard behavior kill me.

I am under the impression that this idea post should be merged with this one, since it basically addresses the same issue: missing/ non-functioning hotkeys @kimberly_fuhrman-jones

@Intuos5 , that's probably true. I even think I put in a more in-depth version on the Ribbon with documentation a few years ago. Here it is.

@pobrienFNE96thanks! Good suggestion. There are just too many of these annoying inconsistencies throughout...

Thank you, @Intuos5 ,

@Simon_Weel , what do you think about merging this thread with @Intuos5 's?

Happy New Year!
