concept modelling from spaces

concept modelling from spaces

Based on Vectorworks 'Spaces' modelling tool. For architects, this provides a more intuitive way of developing a building model at concept stage working from the inside spaces to develop the building mass and the outward form. Spaces are modeled as 3d volumes with footprint and height, separated by gaps. The gaps between the volumes can then be converted to internal walls and the edges to external walls ant the base to floors to create the building form. Much better than the conceptual massing approach which only seems to work for creating the overall building volume. Saw a vectorworks demonstration of modelling based on Spaces Planning and realised, as a revit novice, it easily achieved was what I was struggling to do with revit!

If revit can do this and I am missing something, please let me know.....

@Anonymous If you stuck with Revit, I found mis-using ceilings to be your concept masses to be quite useful. I hardly ever use ceilings in early project stages and if you find appropriate names for concept ceilings you can always filter them away or remove them when you get to CD stage. They are easy to use in schedules and give away their footprint area and volumes. Not as flexible as proper mass entities but sufficient if you are into standard extrude like spaces.
