civil 3d and revit interoperability

civil 3d and revit interoperability

hopefully in the next version of revit....when
civil 3d pipe networks can be loaded into revit as editable elements / parts it would be great if you could swap parts... eg. swap a basic manhole chamber created in civil 3d for a more detailed chamber created in a revit family. Alternatively maybe a command could be added to civil 3d to allow parts to be swapped for revit family's. obviously all parts / element data should be transferable too between software platforms.

it would be great if pipe networks and pressure networks could be loaded or linked into a revit model with all of their data maintained...and editable for future design changes.
recently we needed to re-create our pipework in revit for the client even though we already had a civil 3d model...because we could only display our civil 3d model as a dumb cad link / 3d solid....no info .

I also disliked that the topography in Civil does not translate to topography in Revit.

And there was not way to reuse all the buildings. The whole thing was basically: "Here's everything you need! Now trace it and start from scratch"

This is actually in the Road Maps, at least the Topography part. But exporting the piping network would be great.

@Anonymous, with the Site Designer extension you can create a Toposurface from a LandXML create on Civil 3D, but it not a desired workflow, in Revit 2013 to 2017 you can use Civil Structures extensión to create the toposuface from a ACAD C3D drawing (that must be open in the same pc, it wasn't a good workflow eigther).

For Roads, was possible to use Civil Structures extension to create a mass of the geometry of Road (from a C3D drawing openned in the same pc at the same time)...from the mass the option was to create a Roof by Mass, to make the Road. Or import the Alignmed a make the road by sections to define.

Another Option is to export the Civil 3D road to ACIS Solids, them import it to Revit with the Road Category...

But a better implementation for collaboration is needed.

With the 2018.1 release of Revit, we include a bunch of fixes and updates so that IFC works better. We plan to keep working on it so that Revit is certified for IFC4.

Behind the scenes, we are still working on supporting showing better Civil 3D topography in Revit.  Remodeling is bad – and we don’t think you should have to do it.  To minimize any remodeling if you are working with a civil engineer using Civil3D software,  we are working to better support more accurate geometry transfer of topography from Civil 3D into Revit."

A couple of years back I had a very complex coordination situation in an alley with lots of utilities from the MEP side and there were a bunch of Civil items in there. I looked into it at the time but there wasn’t a way to bring a c3d model into Revit then (at least that I could find).

This seems like a pretty good thing to improve on.

I have the same issue working on port project where the Civil is our prime consultant and we require to coordinate our Revit building with their Civil 3d. We have to use some obscure plugin from Autodesk website, but it still does not solved our live linking coordination. We need a better tools or eliminate Revit 20 miles radius.
