Categorize Tabbed Views

Categorize Tabbed Views

The new tabbed views feature in Revit 2019 is great! Thank you for it.

It is a bit confusing when you have multiple project files open. You might have views in different projects that are the same name. It would be great if you can categorize the tabs per project by using color coding for example.

Hi, some times I need to work on more than one model at the same time.

The view name is the same in each model. (standard company naming )

I wonder if there is any chance of customize the View TABs, to input a color to the TAB, so I can visually identify the model that the view belongs to.

Automatically (or custom) asign colors to the TABS that belong to different models.

The genius of this is in it's simplicity.  Doesn't take any extra room and it makes life easier.  I was just fighting this yesterday.

Excellent idea!

Here's what I'd like -- a line of tabs for each open model. These lines should be re-orderable vertically the way the tabs themselves are horizontally. Tabs are colored by project. Open tabs are still bolded and maybe use darker background colors for emphasis. If only one or two models are open, there should be an option to collapse the tabs onto a single line, as at present, with other graphic changes still in place. I'd also like to have an abbreviated project name at the far left of each line, as well, given that many view names will be identical from project to project.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this the same functionality or an improvement of "Find Referring Views"?

this would be great... i really need it

grouping under the tree view on the left- so the top-level was each model- then the views under that

   + PLANS

   ++SECTIONS

   ...

12345678-AE-UNIT-A1

   +PLANS

    ...

And Filter/grouping/color coding  for the tabs:

tab color & grouping, Stacked tabs, filter tabs (for single row)tab color & grouping, Stacked tabs, filter tabs (for single row)

This idea was created before the one mentioned in the link. The ideas from that link should be merged with this one rather.

@adrianas: Revit is a multi-instance software. I usually open one project in one Revit instance on monitor 1 , then open another Revit instance on monitor 2 and open another project in that one. One project - one screen. Can't confuse them. I only open multiple projects in the same Revit instance when i need to transfer project standards from one to the other project.

@ipselute I understand what you say, but I insist on having colors to identify multiple projects you may have open at the same time, with multiple views that have the exactly same name in all them, may really help.

@ipselute: Multi-instances are not an option to us. We are using two or three monitors for displaying floorplans, section views and schedules at the same time from different project files. Colored and sorted tabs are a must have to revit.

When there are multiple projects opened in a single revit session, some kind of colors should be used to distinguish between the project tab so that it would't take long if we need to switch tabs within the project.

The pyRevit plug-in already offers that functionality. I agree it should be there out of the box.

THANK YOU RAYNA!!!

pyRevit colorizes tabs!: Tab Coloring Toggle on at Start #791

It works- not the whole tab so it is not as obvious as I would like but definitely better than nothing!

Parallax has an independent Addin as well:

There may be some custoimization in the API available hereabouts : )

@Anonymous  in the PY Revit - is the code exposed so we can develop our own plugin and API to color the entire tab?

This would be very useful. It’s so annoying when you’ve got a few drawings open and then a family (or two).
