Capture section/ elevation view as drafting view

I know this goes against the BIM ethos- but it would really be helpful to be able to capture a section or elevation view as a drafting view- all within revit- such that all of the line work is converted to the Revit 2d environment.  Often times as designers, we are tasked with comparing alternatives in conventional architectural views and there simply is not time to develop all of the model content needed to generate the alternate design.  This is not counter to the BIM ethos- its just more in line with reality.  Model>> Develop and evaluate alternatives >> Make Decision>> Revise model.  This is the BIM workflow and currently, it cannot be done efficiently within the Revit environment.

Use the "Freeze Drawing" option and export it to Autocad. It's much faster to edit it in Autocad, drafting in Revit is not so great / not the main goal of Revit in general.

The mind-set that " drafting in Revit is not so great" is primarily because many firms have not developed a good set of Detail Components.

Once a good library of parametric Detail Components has been created, you can fly when "drafting" in Revit.

And, if you've assigned proper parameters, Tagging (not "adding Text") is child's play.

@dplumb_BWBR: Old habits die hard. There are many useful options in Autocad that have no equivalent in Revit, like Stretch command, better snapping to all kinds of points, enhanced view names and properties, Autocad Design Center for transferring standards between files/projects, etc. Revit should have an enhanced Sketch/Drafting module like Allplan has.

ArchiCAD has a feature like this. It would be very welcome and make standard details much more portable between projects.
