Callout in multiple Views

Callout in multiple Views

If we want the Callout Bubble for an Enlarged Plan to show on more than one View, we need to redraw it. Man Sad

Just Like Elevations and Sections show on multiple Views, we need to be able to see the same Callout Bubble in more than the View it was created in - without recreating it and using "Reference Other View"

This is an option if the Callout is a Detail View, but not if its a Plan View.

Should be an option for all.

I disagree. That would wreak havoc on all other views. When you call out an enlarged plan from a specific plan, I only want to see it in the plan it was created. That is how the contractor would look for it. Repetition for repetition's sake is not good.

By the way sections and elevations suffer from the same problem. It would be better if they did not show by default, or if we could control it via a view type setting. Some sections, like overall building sections, may want to show up in all views, but not others.

This is where view types are important - you can control what you see and when, and being able to see them all in one working view helps identify any potential duplicates. For example, we have a a key plan and a dimension plan.  They both need a reference to an enlarged restroom plan, which has both the tags and the dimensions. To allow for both options, perhaps enlarged callouts, like details, could have the option of showing only in the parent view or in all intersecting views.

🙂 Great minds, Julile! I was in the process of typing this when I saw your post show up.

You can control these references by Visibility Settings.

View Types, View Templates and Filters can easily handle hiding Sections, Elevations and Callouts where you don't want them.

That's how we have for years controlled where our Sections and Elevations show up.

But if Revit doesn't even allow Callouts to show up at all, I don't have a choice to show it or not.

Rather than "suffering from the same problem", Callouts should have the same flexibility that Sections and Elevation do.

Yes, I mentioned that it should be a view type setting. I know about view filters based on view types. The problem with that is that the view type organization does not always align with what you want to hide in each view systematically. You also end up with people assigning the incorrect view types, and you end up with too many view types.

Then when they can't see them in a view, or they want that exception to the rule, its more difficult to figure out why it is not showing in that view. This is especially cumbersome when you have many view filters on a large project with many view types.

I would say that references like restroom plans should only show up on a single plan. I would look at the construction plan for that callout. Dimension plans are another topic altogether. I would not go looking there for a restroom plan callout.
