Browser organization

Browser organization

Allow us to organize the Families section.  I would love to have the Annotations as a separate category that could then be further organized by a parameter that is assigned only to Generic Annotations.  e.g. Electrical, Framing, etc.  It's painful to have to scroll through so many.

Maybe allow us to group all of the Families in our own way, like we can do with Views.

Allow us to be able to create separate Browser Organization schemes to each group.

To clarify, I mean allow us to strip out groups from the Families to be on the same level as Schedules, Sheets, Views.  At least let Annotations be separate.  That way they could get a separate Browser Organization from what applies to the other Families.

It sounds like you don't have much organisation in terms of the naming of your families? I suggest you work on that as it will take care of itself.

Your suggestion still means you will have to have some sort of sorting involved in families. No reason why you can't do that in the naming and then Revit will just do it properly for you. Personally, if I want to find a piece of Mechanical equipment, I will go to the Mech Equip families and then, knowing or not knowing what the family name is, I'll look for what I expect it to be. Just like if I want to find mechanical views I will look for them in the Mechanical area of my Views section.

Your example even documents how you would sort them.

Just have "GenAnn-E-Family Name" = Generic Annotation-Electrical-Family Name. Then all the generic electrical annotation will sit next to one another, just like you'd like?

All of our view names are named so that even if we didn't have any Project Browser organisation, they'd still sit next to or very near each other!

Actually I have a very well organized naming convention.  My issue is with the amount of families one can accumulate under one category. Especially annotations.  For instance, I have all my sheets starting with the word "Sheet" so that they are all in sequence, alphabetically, in the "S" location.  However, since I don't create sheets from the annotation list in the Families list, why do I have to scroll past them every time I want to find something that begins with "T"?  Why are sheets, section tails, grid circle, room tags, etc. listed individually?  Why can't we make it easier?  If I could group all my electrical annotations in a collapsible group, sheets in another, etc., then I don't have to scroll multiple screens down to get to what I need.

For views, you can do what I want.  I have multiple levels I use so I can organize by working views, different phases, construction documents, presentations, etc.  Very efficient.  Then you get to Families and you have to scroll like mad.

Scrolling wastes time.

Alright I think you've made a valid point there!

I don't have the same issues with annotation or any family to be honest but I cannot, nor do I want to, argue with the "Why can't we make it easier?" Comment.

Thanks, Ben.  I would just say that patience with scrolling is inversely proportional to the number of families one has.😁
