Audio Visual devices should be a separate category, right now our company models them as Data Devices, but it would be easier to logically separate them if they were their own category.
Completely agree here, we have them down as Communications Devices but they have the chance of being lost within MEP scheduling, even with adding parameters to their family types to gain more segregation between the speaker systems and the monitors.
I was thrilled to learn that Revit finally has an Audio Visual family category. Just starting to work with it and was shocked to find that the family category has no "Maintain Annotation Orientation" parameter! I can't use this category because I can't place a symbol in the family to show in Coarse detail setting! Guys, please fix this!!
@jerrold_stevens I completely concur and agree with you that it would be good to have that functionality in that family category. Since this idea is actually implemented, please submit your idea to improve that family category and then come back here and post a link to the new idea. I'll vote it up!
We tried to use the Audio Visual category but found it useless as elements above the cut view range cut plane were invisible and ghosted behind Architectural elements. Please make the category behave the same as electrical fixtures, data devices etc.
@Rockit_for_Revit , I understand that that electrical drawings typically show ceiling and floor level devices on the same sheet, but I find this gets too messy and difficult to read for many of the projects we do. We create separate floor plans and RCPs. Some devices are wall mounted above the standard 4' AFF cut plane, so we add a plan region to those devices so they show up in floor plans. I prefer this myself.
I realize that the Audio Visual category has been around for a few years now, but i don't see the button on the ribbon to place the family category in the floor plans. Am i missing something?
@glenwalson7986 I believe it will be under the Component tool on the Model panel just like so many other things. If it doesn't show up there, then I presume there is a bug that should be reported. As is the case with everything else in Revit, if it doesn't have it's own button, it's probably under the Component tool.
@glenwalson7986 . Not sure I understand your question. The AV category is found in the Families Library in the Project Browser if you have loaded any Families in that category. I just recently started a new project in 2023 so I am finally able to use the category. I loaded in the Families I needed (previous versions in Communications Devices), changed the names of them in the project browser with a "_2023" suffix, then opened them in the Family Editor to change them to the new AV category and then saved and reloaded into the project. Now my AV devices show up in the AV category in the Project Browser.
AV Devices are not true Electrical Components atm and will be greyed out, and disappear when above the cut plane. They are currently acting as Generic Models apparently. They need to act like all other Electrical Families Types. There is a incident logged, and being reviewed and a resolution is being planned for a future release.
